YAY!!!
As some of you might know I recently moved to college in Winter Park (Rollins). I love it here–the campus is gorgeous, the classes are nice and small, people are generally cool, and the range of class topics, clubs, and activities offered rocks. BUT there was one problem which I found hard to deal with. Alot of people brought viruses into the campus network when they brought their laptops from home, so we have been Without Internet in our dorms until this very moment. And for some reason C&F wouldn’t load right in the computer lab.
In others words I have been forced to suffer C&F withdrawal! And right after my trip to Ireland too!! Which, by the way, was simply beyond words. Fabulous and awesome and amazing. Tons of pics available on request, which I will load probably this weekend when I don’t have so much homework!
I’m bowled over by all the topics I’ve missed out on, so I’ve decided to just start today and read posts in the future, unless I see a particularly catchy topic. 
But if there’ve been any real big happenings let me know!
I’ve missed you guys so much!! Like I said, people here are cool, but they can’t really relate to my tinwhistle love. Actually, I did perform “Fields of Athenry” on whistle with a guy playing guitar at an open mic night in the campus center. 
I was incredibly terrified, and messed up a couple times.. but afterwards a couple people came up and told me how much they liked it. I guess people will always be attracted to the unusual–whether that was me or my whistle.

Hi Sara! nice to have you back. . .messing up in front of people is so minor a thing compared to getting up there in the first place. Congrats!

If you’ve just come to Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, you may want to check out “Fiddler’s Green”, an Irish pub/restaurant, just about 1/4 mile west Rollings (Park Ave) on Aloma Ave. My wife & I went there for our anniversary one year. A band called the Wyndbreakers played & we had a blast. (Yes, they have a song explaining the meaning of the band’s name…)

I’ve seen that place! I drive by it every time I leave/enter town. It looks great, so I’ll definitly have to check it out now!
Fields of Athenry - one of only three or four songs I’ve contemplated working up into a party piece, comprising whistle intro, sing two verses, instrumental interlude, sing last verse, whistle to close.
Gotta get the right key of whistle that’ll complement your vocal range of course!

Thanks Martin! Yea, it was really pretty with guitar, vocal and whistle. We just did a short intro, verse/chorus etc, then a short conclusion. It was really long though because the guy wanted to do all the verses he knew, which were about 4 or 5…oi… so I’d recommend picking just a few of your favorite verses to cut the monotony!
