If you can choose only ONE whistle...

sorry, but couldn’t resist. Similar to my previous post but this time it’s somewhat different.

Suppose you are suddenly to be taken to a remote planet by some little green men, and fot some strange reason the chief officer (?) offers you a choice of ONLY ONE soprano D whistle you can take with you. Which whistle would that be?

Morningsong, my Elf Song D. If I could possibly persuade the nice alien to let me have two, Lark, my O Briain improved, would come along too, but nothing’s ever going to part me from my Elf Song!

Seems rather discriminatory against us folks who prefer low-D’s, doesn’t it?

I guess I’d have to choose my Chieftain Gold high-D. It’s not the best I have for jigs and reels, but it’s truly wonderful for the slow airs.

Besides, it’s sturdy as hell, which means I could beat the tar out of the little green man for not letting me bring my low-D.

CHIFF OFFICER

home made copper for me.

I don’t want green men to force me and play soprano D. I’d rather Low D or high Bb.

Now, with your alien rules, I’ll take a Susato, put some Martian beeswax (or parsley) in my ears and play exclusively in 3rd octave. That will teach them!

A Burke Brass Pro D substantial enough to be used as a weapon if need be.

MarkB

Cronnolly D, especially if I can sneak both model heads along with me.

I’d try to have my Oak hidden somewhere too, though–lovely whistle, that!

Rose blackwood, but of course

Soprano D Sindt. Not so loud as to scream above other instruments, not so quiet as to be unheard. I love it’s sweet “cheap” whistle sound and the fact that it has none of the cheap whistle intonation problems. Unfortunately I don’t own one so I have to covet everyone else’s…

Wes

Burke Brass Pro Session D

It would have to be my Copper Parkhurst. It would also be a good weapon especially if I was hitting that High B in “Oh Danny Boy” while practicing for my St. Patrick’s Day program.
I would also have my Serpent Brass hid in my back pocket though because I would miss it too much to leave it behind.

Cheers!
Kathy

Out of the whistles that I own, I’d be taking my copper serpent with me…

My Elfsong-no contest. Lovely sound, and not too hard to play the higher octaves.

Kaitlin

I would whack green guy upside the head with my home-made copper Low D for even thinking of making me choose between my whistles!

I`m with Groovehead on this one. I went 54 years without a whistle and no one is now going to make me choose one out of my two tabbacco cans of cheepies (my hand made guys live in a monistary) to live with. There is just no way.

Tom

LOL!!

I’d say it would have to be a tie between my Doolin 2pc, Dom- my Sweetone, or Rick- my black Susato Kildare…

grr! tough decision! lol

Definitely, my Susato. I have more expensive whistles, but the Susato is the only one I play on stage. It’s a wonderful instrument, and durable…

As of now, it would have to be my brass Copeland D, but I would actually hate to leave my dented and cleartaped Sweetone behind. Maybe I could talk the LGM into letting me take it too.

Generation Folk D

'cos it has a green head, just like the little green man

Well, I wouldn’t have so damn many whistles if I could choose one. Last time we had a thread like this, I cheated and picked two. This time, I couldn’t even do that, so I guess I can’t play.

(Last week it would’ve been the Wilson, the week before, Bleazey boxwood. This week, an antique boxwood 4-key flute.)
