What would be the whistle of your choice if you could only pick one.
Clare 2-piece (Brass, in D) aka Eagle in the US I believe. I even got used to the icky green colour of the mouthpiece.
I carry mine pretty much everywhere, and the tone just gets better the more I play it.
I’m not familiar with many of the brands that are discussed here. I’ve never seen most of them. But Grey Larsen let me play his Copeland high D when I did a workshop with him. I’d take that one.

My sticky-tacked Feadog. I’ve gotten to where I like it even more than my O’Briain. Other than the sticky tack, it’s just a stock Feadog, but sounds as good as any of the high end whistles I own, including the Sindt D.
My Abell D.
If I were forced to chuck all of my whistles but one, I’d probably keep my Oak D.
Rene,
That’s a better question, for me, than it initially appeared. After a little thought I realized, it wasn’t any regular-D, I owned, or have tried. If I could only have one whistle, it would be my Overton Low-D. It was a close call with an ORiordan Concert D that I got to try once, but I think the Low-D still wins out.
So far Copeland Low D, haven´t tried many whistles though.

In the warmer months, Thin Weasel D; in the cooler months, Burke WBB D (for condensation reasons, plus I could never decide).
Chas, that’s the string or nothing answer, you cheater!
This is a tough one! I have a Sindt D and a Hoover Whitecap D that are both wonderful instruments. Do I really have to make a choice? Oh, man … I just played the Hoover Whitecap this morning so right now I’d have to say that would be the one. It’s a sweet, medium volume instrument, nice tone, the right amount of chiff, good intonation, to my ears even more like a very good Generation whistle than the Sindt, though not quite as even in volume across 2+ octaves as the Sindt (pretty close, though). However, ask me tonight after I’ve played the Sindt awhile and my answer will likely change (it really depends on which of the two I’ve most recently played ![]()
Or is the real question:
If you could only be one whistle, what would you have?

My Burke Wide Bore Brass.

I’m with you on that. . .Burke WBB soprano D. Sweet on airs, snappy response on jigs and reels, medium loud, primary session key. The perfect whistle.
