Identifying old chanter, drones and regs

Can we see pics of the popping valve from a couple of sides and bottom?

Paul,

When I was last out to visit Joe Kennedy when he still lived in Woodstock, Ontario, he showed me that set, among two or three other antiques in his possession, and he said that Tayloresque set you’ve shown was by, or likely by, a chap named Anderson.

So Peter Laban gets the prize for best guess.

Oopps, sorry that was Bill H’s guess, not Peter Laban’s.

Why not a third post . . .

Who owns this set Paul? Are you the owner?

As for why I confused Peter L with Bill H, I guess it is because you are both well informed foreigners living in Ireland. Lucky devils. Enjoyed Bill’s recent article in the Piper’s Review Bill.

Hi Gregory,

No, I’m not the owner but I currently have the set at home. The set belongs to Scott’s Highland Services but I’m helping them as much as I can with their Uilleann pipe stuff. As mentioned they sent the set to Joe Kennedy who put a nice reed in the chanter.

The chanter does need some work on the keys and pads and the chanter top needs to be made fully airtight. Otherwise quite a nice chanter. Getting the rest of the set in order would be a restoration project for an interested pipemaker I suppose.

Also, when visiting the store I was surprised when they showed me two brand new unplayed sets!!! One practise set by Joe Kennedy and a half set by Hevia. They were still in the bubble wrap! :boggle:

So…I’m having a go at these sets getting making sure the reeds are in good working order. I will have them for sale at Goderich. I’m hoping to get some pics up and start a new thread if I can find the time. Otherwise interested pipers at Goderich will get first dibs.

Well, is it or not? Can anyone indentify this?

Thanks Gregory!

For anyone who may be interested, I’ve listed an ImageStation album with the photos from the Pipers’ Review article, so you can see the original pictures instead of just the black-and-white reproductions:

Also there are a couple more images of the bass drone slide section here:

Have fun!

Bill

On second thought, perhaps it is the baritone drone.

Thanks for sharing the photos with us Bill.

Well Bill, what do you say?

I hate to think of a fascinating old set like that just languishing in a box until it will eventually be pitched out in the garbage.

Jim,
Here are the pics you wanted.

they could also be by the late Michael Keenan of Shercock, County Cavan

Good looking work Bill, keep it up.
