A set of regulators on a Lynch set. The gal that bought them to the Paddy Keenan workshop were told they were Kennedy regs, BUT when NoE looked at them, they looked older, didn’t look like Joe Kennedy’s work and thought maybe Kennedy from Cork. Its some sort of stained wood.
A concert D chanter, Cnat key with JW or TW stamped on the key block between the E and F holes. The curious thing is that I can’t get any of my reeds to work in it. The original reed is cracked beyond repair. Its part of a practice set that a mandolin player got from his Dad.
Edited 1 time: Curiosity got the better part of me. I did get a reed to work, but the C# and back D are very quiet and very off. The first part of the scale sounds ok, and the 2nd octave e through b sounds ok. The staple that came with it is rolled and not hobby tubing
Kennedy of Cork (Moss and Alf, father and son respectively) used round-cup-and-pad keys on their regulators. So did their predecessors, the Crowleys. The tuning pins, caps and ferrules don’t look like any Kennedy work I’ve seen either.
About 2 years ago a pair of Thompson regulators came up for sale on eBay. Tenor and Bari. Stained Boxwood and brass. IIRC they looked fairly beat. How long has this lady owned the regulators?
Yes, that is correct about the regs being Thomson. I had considered purchasing them a few years ago. But I contacted Seth Gallagher since the seller said that they had just been in his shop. In any case, I still have photos of those regs.
Doug- FYI-these belonged to that gal in the green tee shirt. Then they are Thompson regs cuz these do look just like the ones she had on her set.
Thanks Tommy for ID-ing the Tom White chanter. Is he still alive? Any details that I can pass on to my Mando friend will be appreciated. I’m hoping to get it reeded at our tionol and get it back to him and his Dad.

Your in luck Fel.
Martin Preshaw has had a fair bit of experience reeding Tom White chanters and had nice things to say about them too.
The Thompson regs look familiar too. I think I may have known the original owner who now plays a De Keyser full set, and a cracking set too!
I must say that if I had to buy another set of regulators I’d go straight to Kevin Thompson. I’ve had a full set for about 16/17 years and I’ve never had to replace a pad or tighten a spring and I play them a lot. The baritone regulator reed is original too.
Kevin make great stuff.
When NoE and I were looking at the regs, one of (or more) were a bit sticky for what its worth.
