I would buy a D practice set, my first, to learn to play this wonderfool instrument, but i want to buy a professional chanter..
becouse I think that for the style I playng now (I play whistle) I need only the chanter and not a full set..
?Can you help me? I need a professional instrument.. Which set I can buy with a budget of 1000$

You probably can’t buy a “professional”* practise set for $1000

Ideally buy from a maker near you but Italy may be a problem
There is Charles Roberts in Spain plus a few makers in France including Brendan Ring who I understand has recently moved to the south. Ray Sloan may have moved to Ireland but if not he is in the south of France.
There are several festivals in France where you can try before you buy and probably the same in Italy
Check your PM’s for contact details as there are several makers that may be able to supply within your budget
Avoid the cheap sets on Ebay that are invarably Pakistani in origin even if they say they aren’t and check out the facs section of this board.

$1000 is a rather small budget.
Richard Patkos in Hungary is doing a practice set for 750 euros, which will come in under your budget.
As normal in this situation I would also recommend you contact Kenneth McNicholl at KM Bagpipes and see what he could do for you.

You could contact piper and maker Daniele Bicego in Pavia for advice.
Andreas Rogge sells a nice sounding and good working practice Set for 642,–€
It is made from POM, but works fine and you dont hear a difference to a wooden Set.

On a different places I have seen that plastic chanters and reeds are not good choice ?
At the same time on few places have read about good reeds - with some kind of plastic ?
What is the situation at this time ?
Is it possible to compare Rogge’s practice set and David Daye’s set ?
I rarely see somebody saying something bad about set’s but you could see sometimes some things you don’t like so much ?

Plastic chanter reeds are a very poor choice. Avoid them.
As for plastic anything else, opinions vary. I’ve seen at least one plastic chanter (made by Uilleann Pipeworks of Boston) that plays very well - with a cane reed of course. Plastic drone reeds may be OK for drones, some people like them and they do work fine. A practice set has no drone reeds.
The warnings about plastic chanters seem to be talking about mouth-blown plastic “practice chanters” for uilleann pipes, with plastic reeds.

The Rogge Set comes with a Cane Reed.
I have a Rogge Cocobolo Chanter and a Rogge Poly (plastic) Chanter. I can change the reeds between them without problems.

I would like to add that Andreas recently developed POM-drones (3, same mainstock shape as a normal halfset), which he proudly presented. They look and sound very nice. I don´t know though from when on they will be available.
