Yes.. i ordered a Narrow Bore brass in high D. I’m in love with it, don’t know why i’m typing this, but it’s necessary. I want to blurt out to the whole world that i’m in love with a whistle. The sound is wonderful.. cheery, sweet, bright and very quiet. Perfect whistle for practice as i live upstairs in an apartment. I had tears in my eyes when i took it out of its packaging… it’s more beautiful than i ever thought brass could be.. very beautiful. Second octave is very easy to reach and changing octaves is easy with this whistle. Wonderful to look at, hold, play and wow. I love it.
I have one of these, too, that I bought from Mac a year or so ago. I travel some, and I wanted a whistle that i could play in a motel room without inciting a riot - and Mack’s narrow bore brass it is the perfect whistle for the occasion!

yeah… mine’s already starting to develop a patina. YAY!! i’m so happy
I don’t suppose you could post a sound bite of it?
i’m not sure how to do it, because i don’t really have a speaker… the best i could do is a clip with a webcam and then i’m not sure how to post it here.
Use your webcam to record, post it on YouTube, and put a link here. ![]()
Now you have no excuse. ![]()
Jason
hehe… okay, but… i’m not good enough to be on youtube, but i will do so, just because… be nice, i’m a newbie. lol
Ok… here ya go.. sorry about the lighting.. it’s not very good.
That’s pretty gutsy of you to post the vid. Good for you.
Can I suggest that you -
o Straighten your fingers and play with the pads of your fingers, and not arch your fingers and play with your fingertips? I hear a couple of spots where you miss covering the note because of your cramped finger position.
o Slow your hornpipe tempo down around 25%, from 100 to around 75-80. I know there’s a tendency to speed up when you’re nervous and recording. But it sounds like there’s a fire burning behind your webcam. ![]()
Enjoy the whistle. I’ve tried one of those, and think it’s quite nice.
and you’re on the computer?? Go back to that whistle! ![]()
I think I need a Hoover whistle. My dog’s name is Hoover, and he is a very rare breed. No, it’s not that Labrador retrievers are uncommon, but dogs who will come lie on your feet WHILE YOU ARE PLAYING A WHISTLE are!
Have fun with your Hoover. Rub its tummy a lot. ![]()
My Labrador,a 3 year old girl sits on my feet when I play too…But the’ye heavy, these Labs are’nt they…cuts off the circulation after a while ![]()
Sing it!
He ain’t heavy,
He’s my Labrador . . .
(Are you old enough to understand that reference?
)
My husband refers to our Lab as “the living slipper.” We live in a cold climate so having 70 pounds of warm furry dog on one’s feet is usually welcome.
Yep Sarah,I am old enough
…
Its Winter here in OZ and a big Labbie is just the thing for those cold tootsies…
Our Lab,called Tilley is the first big dog we’ve ever had…we’ve always had Fox Terriers and the like…now we’re confirmed LabLovers…
Dogs often get nicknames…ours is “the Fat Beige Shadow”..although she’s not fat…she could be though because as you probably know,Labs are eating champions…
Sorry for the ‘Doggie’ thread hijack
Hi Crazed,
Nice job on youtube and nice sounding whistle you got there. I haven’t learned Harvest Home yet, but we play it at the session I go to so eventually I will. I’m a newbie too - about a year or so into learning whistle & flute & having a ball with it and I can see you are too. Happy tooting!

Hi all;
Mack is very pleasant to communicate with; knows his stuff. The whistle is indeed a little gem. Has to be warmed up a bit to avoid condense, but is the right tool to play. A real nice whistle at an affordable price. It looks also nice and sounds sweet. I like the patina that comes on brass whistles; that’s when they come alive and look used. So don’t polish those whistles too much; caused by the acid from your sweaty fingers, the patina on the brass will always come back. Take care,
Ron
Thanks for posting that. I have been keen to hear a Mack D, and it has a nice tone (to my ears) - not too shrill..
Thank you all for your comments.
to MTGuru: Yes, i have now been practicing straightening out my fingers.. i’ve been doing that on my other whistles, but i think i’m still trying to get used to such a narrow bore whistle. Also working on slowing down as well.
Is my rhythm decent though for a hornpipe in the beginning before i screwed it up by breathing in the wrong spots? Lol.. i was very nervous.
Way to go! ![]()
See, you get to show off your whistle and get some playing tips. ![]()
I’m no expert, but I’m sure better players will chime in about your hornpipe rhythm. Personally, I think it’s close, but sounded a bit mechanical - probably from your being nervous.
If you look in the additional videos, you’ll see Harvest Home by Ryan Duns. He’s a great player, and I think that video sets a good example of a hornpipe.

Thank you Jason… I hope you’re happy now. ![]()
Yes, showing off my whistle and receiving playing tips was my intent…
Unforunately, i have to leave for work now.
Thanks again all. ![]()
I think you did a fine job!! All good tips given. The whistle sounds great.
