so there!
Nuts, I did miss it.
Now where did I put my facial-egg removing kit?
Guess it was that the subject of the thread wasn’t actually in the subject line ![]()
Well, since you didn’t post anything, there’s no need for egg removal. But what did I reply to? ![]()
There, there now. We know you didn’t
Now sir can you please just turn your face to the heat lamp and we will just work on that facial for you.

It occurs to me that when I was 11, and took riding lessons, the intructor (a strikingly tall woman who went on to ever after be cast as the Statue of Liberty in her real-estate company’s Independence Day float–real estate being her 2nd career after stable-ownership,) would get tired of watching her ponies plod around the ring with we instructees aboard, and she’d call out
“Nice posting trot, trot posting!”, whereupon the ponies, who responded to that command before we instructees could even respond with our boots, would accelerate to a half-hearted trot.
Anyway, I did a lot of posting in those days, none of which is showing up on my C&F post tally.
Are you Emmline Post of the famous Post family of serial posters?
MarkB
No. I have no manners at all I’m afraid.
My mother taught my sister and I to ride in the English manner, which always seemed very funny to me, with all that up and down movement in the saddle. Years later I asked her why did the English ride such a manner and she said; “That style of riding was developed because the British are shortish people and couldn’t see over the horses head, to see where they were going, thus they had to keep standing up.”
MarkB
Having ridden in both the English and Western styles, I can say that if you get your posting just right it saves you quite a bit of bumping around and maybe some wear and tear on your pin bones.
Still, given my druthers, I’d opt for Western. Less formal.
I didn’t post anything either nor did I respond to anything.
BTW Emmline that kind of posting shows up elsewhere not on C&F.
I am sorry but I never understood the english style of riding. It looks like more work than if you had just walked.

A couple of years ago a fellow librarian who owns a horse, invited me out to see it, it had been almost forty years since those riding lessons from my mom that I had been near enough to a horse to ride it.
After a while of chatting, she offered me to go for a ride, reluctant at first but then I hopped on to do just a few turns around the corral. It’s funny how something so distant comes flooding back to you.
After several turns around the corral and just sitting on the horse, I decided to get it to trot and by golly he broke into a trot and I started posting, almost as if I never left a horse. Must be like riding a bike.
Gee, did mom proud!

Ah, posting…
I did a little bit of dressage riding back when I had horses. It’s a nice horse sport for the equestrian with OCD, since it emphasizes accuracy and precision–training level tests generally start, “Enter at A, working trot sitting, at X halt, salute. Proceed working trot sitting, track left at C…”
And then, if you’re asked to post (that is, rise every other step the horse takes), you have to do it on the correct diagonal (whether the left shoulder is coming forward or the right, depending on which way you may be turning).
Anyway, if your horse has a springy, energetic trot (as it should), then you’d wish you WERE posting instead of trying to stick to the saddle ![]()
In upper level dressage, all trot work is done sitting. When your horse is trained well enough to do passage (a trot with a bit of hesitation between steps) or piaffe (a trot in place), you’re usually too busy urging it on with your legs to do any posting.
What all this has to do with whistles, though, is beyond me. ![]()

I tried riding my bike like this on the way home, and no, it’s not the same at all. In fact I fell off. More egg. Glad nobody had left a pavement pizza for me to fall into. So no, not the same at all.
Anyway, Happy 1000th Dubhinn and all that. More power to your elbow.
I seem to have wandered into the Vinny Barbarino thread…who? where? wha? me?
