A more autumnal flute I have yet to see. I’m in the ‘love your work, but maybe not so much on my Irish flute’ camp. Great stuff, though!

There is considerable art going into endcaps on Irish flutes already, e.g. Sam Murray’s are beautiful, lovely designs
in blackwood. I think your work could be adapted to our flutes. Really enjoy looking at these pictures. thanks
for posting.

The only end caps I saw were wood, but I admit I haven’t scoured the planet either.
Are these end caps sometimes made of metal? I’d like to acquire one if possible.

@MTGuru, I really don’t know why I landed here—surfing the net mostly. I have a real fascination for anything “handmade” (must be the craftsman in me). A good friend of mine, and fellow Scotsman, makes baroque style flutes and we share the passion of the “sideblown technology”. His name is Rod Cameron.

I think that you’d end up with two different issues that wouldn’t be found with the silver flutes. Note that I am not a maker of flutes, so I could be wrong.

  1. I don’t know how interchangeable the caps are on the Boehm flutes are, but I’d suspect that the outside and inside dimensions on the wooden flutes very more from maker to maker and would take more tinkering to get a fit.

  2. The cork adjustment is a bit different and would need additional work to incorporate. Some have a post that go through, some don’t, some are just caps. Not sure how many of the high end flutes have a non attached cap though.

Not really issues, but it seems to me that they are a bit more individual than simply acquiring one type from one flute.

I agree…it appears as if the cap is “made” as each flute is made. I’m sure the flutemaker does have their own “standard” dimension otherwise acquiring a replacement would almost be either trial and error or almost impossible unless you shipped the HJ to the maker.
