Humphrey Stealth vs. Journeyman

Does anyone who has had a chance to play both the Humphrey Stealth and the Humphrey Journeyman have any comments on how they compare? I’m interested in differences in tone, breath requirement, responsiveness and so on.

Thanks!

…or how both compare to the Black Diamond, (my current favorite). They look to be constructed in a very similar way.

I’ve played a pre-stealth thin walled brass Humphrey and a Journeyman. The Journey man is a bit louder, a bit purer in sound, and has a more in tune C-natural (oxx ooo).

I like the tone of the Journeyman quite a bit, but it’s not quite as balanced across the octaves as the pre-stealth brass Humphrey I have. The Journeyman’s highest couple of notes (high A and B) are also a little piercing (much better than most other whistles tho), while the pre-stealth brass has mellower highest couple of notes.

They’re both great whistles. YMMV

I had a Black Diamond, but only for about 10 days. It wasn’t bad, but I’d definately preferred the Humphrey. The finish on the Black Diamond wasn’t nearly as good (some tool marks on the Delrin mouthpiece, etc.)…if that matters to you.

I have a Humphrey pre Stealth brass that is one of my favorite whistles. I have also played a black diamond for about 10 days. It is a very good whistle and if I didn’t have a Humphrey I probably would have bought it. The Humphrey is a nicer whistle in my opinion. I have both a D and an Eb tube and I am really glad I got the Eb tube. It has a beautiful bright sound. I got mine early when you could get one in 2 weeks. Now Gary has a 6 month waiting list.

I have a Humphrey Stealth which I love. I tried a Journeyman A whistle and found it to have a much less rich and interesting sound. If Gary would make an A along the lines of the Stealth–brass and thin walls–I would buy it in a flash.

Thanks for sharing your opinions everyone. I do appreciate then, and I think they have me leaning toward the Stealth.
