How to Report to the Moderator(s)

I very much appreciate it when members, acting in good faith, point out to me potential problems in threads that might call for my intervention. However, it is very difficult for me to respond when I am not properly directed to the thread or the post to which you refer. Before you Private Message or email me, please copy the http:// address of the thread in question (on Windows machines, you can right click on the address at the top of your browser and select COPY) and then PASTE it into your message to me. Or, alternately, provide me with the forum (whistle, whistle pub, flute, etc) the name of the thread, the log-in name of author of the post or posts to which you refer. This would be greatly appreciated as I otherwise have to poke around looking for what you refer to.

Also, if all possible, cut and paste whatever actual text from the post you are referring to.

Thanks very much.

Dale

Dale, I’ve been meaning to write you to point out an offensive post. I don’t recall the name of the poster or which forum it’s in, and the title had something to do with celtic music, I think, but not whistles. Unless it did. I forget.

Anyway, it has that… WORD…in it…and I think it’s inappropriate on a family forum. I can’t write it here, it’s too inappropriate, but I’m sure you know what one I mean. I closed the window out of shock before I caught the web address. But I’m sure you’ll find it and deal with it appropriately. Thanks!

I saw it, too. Thank you for your attention, Dale, to this critical matter.

Erik

I think I kinda remember that too, Ava. It was a post, somewhere, mighta been here or at a guitar forum, or maybe it was in the letters section of the local paper. But, I thought, ā€œBoy, Dale needs to know about this, pronto.ā€

Was it;

carrotses?

rudebegas?

Was it;

onomatopoeia?

What happened to Chiff and Fipple 24-hour hotline 800 number? Oops, I forgot, you already outline the 24 hour service.

You better watch these people Dale, they’ll make up an offensive post just to test out the system. :laughing:

Just checking the date. Either something fishy is going on, or my ā€œnapā€ just lasted from 5 p.m. on Wednesday to sometime Saturday.

Umm, nevermind! :blush: :blush: :blush:

And now, with our shiny new look, allow me to direct everyone’s attention to the little red exclamation mark clicky at bottom right of each post: it’s the new ā€œReportā€ function. If you think a particular post is problematic, click ā€œReportā€ and let us know WHY there’s a (potential, maybe) problem. Works a treat, and helps the mods keep track better, what with the volume of stuff happening around here. :thumbsup:

Just try to not overuse it, please. We don’t care if someone’s punctuation is offensive to you.

hereafter known to all as the ā€œSpam the Moderatorsā€ button :smiling_imp:

Fear the Foes List. :smiling_imp:

like I say anything work reading?

what are they going to miss?

Oh, I was just idly imagining that if a Foe of mine submitted a report, it wouldn’t show up for me. But alas, I fear this is not meant to be.

and why can we spam out Friends but not our Foes?

(where spam is send the same PM to multiple users)

What would be the point? A spam PM saying ā€œyou suckā€ isn’t gonna tell 'em anything new, is it?

Hmm. Is that so? I did not know that. You’re a sharp one. I suppose it’s the sort of rationale that suggests that if I have a Foe, then really I have no business sending a PM to him/her, at least on a spam basis. Makes sense in a rules-and-regs sort of way to me.

I have to say I don’t like this multiple sendings thing much. After all, it’s no longer a PM by definition, is it? It’s a CM (conference message). Maybe I’ll grow to be comfortable with it.

it’s more emailish, innit

the spell checker didn’t care for that much…

After the change in command from Dale Force 1 to Captain Chastain last year, who are the current mods – are benhall.1 and nanohedron still on board, or does Blayne have his own crew now?

NANO retired from duties before the switch. I don’t know about Ben but assume he’s no longer on duty.

Last week I noticed a few post that read something like ā€˜this post was flagged by the community and is temporarily hidden’. I don’t know what happened after that but it indicates a mechanism to bring a post to the attention of whoever is policing these things. I assume the flag button would do the job.

Heya! Feel free to give a shout out to me anytime. Ben and I had a nice chat a bit ago about him continuing to mod (and of course about old flutes :slight_smile: - need to followup. I’m also going to bring in my man Rex here who helps with things in the shop to keep an eye on things. C&F’s main email is hup@chiffandfipple.com btw.
