How to go from bottom D to high G?

I asked the same question on the FB UP site… probably the same people here?

Anyhow I can easily jump octaves with my playing. I had a bit of trouble going from a lower octave notes to high A. But I figured that out with a rapid opening of some of the lower notes fast enough that you really dont hear them.

But I am stumped on this new one. I am learning Humours of the Glen by O’Farrell and there is one point where he jumps from Bottom D to high G. When I do it I get a low G that I can close and then reopen to the high g but that cant be the right way to do it. If I put a whole lot of pressure on the bag I get low g. If I try the trick above I get a low G…Any hints?

You should be able to get either a single finger or two finger second octave G from a closed chanter, no problem. So you need to close your bottom D first, that’s all.

You can also try using 2nd-octave E as a grace-note leading in to G. This is especially helpful with harder reeds.

But Bensdad is right, with practice you should be able to go directly from a closed chanter to high G. I like to roll my G & F# fingers off (together) to achieve this, though that might just be a psychological prop, and unnecessary.
