If that’s you in the bowler, I recommend a better hat.
Nah-- the bowler is 'WAY cool
We’re done with the snow for a while…
We are getting ready to close the ski areas and flood the low lands!
Ain’t it grand!
Y’know, if I were a hat sort of guy, I’d probably wear one. I do use a re-lensed and restored antique pince-nez for take-along reading glasses. Does that count?
Family has called to say how lousy the weather is in Wisconsin, 12" in Eau Claire, expecting 11" in Oshkosh. I figure it’s a great opportunity to break out the Stormy Kromers, much cooler than an bowler. The guy to the left of the bowler may have one on minus the bill.
Official estimates at this time for Minneapolis hover around 11 inches, but that can’t be accurate. First of all, that amount of snowfall isn’t such a big deal here. Secondly, my neighborhood got way more than that; and thirdly, word is that MNDOT and the city of Saint Paul even gave up trying to plow roadways for now, so the more intrepid mom-and-pop snowplowsters can’t get around and make money. I expect the city of Minneapolis will not be one to set a more shining example. Historically the phrase “Twin Cities shutting down due to a snowstorm” would be so rare as to be ridiculous, but that’s exactly what’s happening.
My family outside of Eau Claire lives at the very end of a multiple mile dirt/sand road. There will be no leaving until their contractor decides he can plow without it getting covered up again. We got “stuck” for three days several years ago. I broke a great XC trail on the road, almost two miles of downhill. ![]()
That seems more like it. Plus, it’s gonna plummet from 18°F now to around -7°F later this evening. And colder yet tomorrow, no letup with the mercury probable until Wednesday. I don’t mind being a homebody, but I don’t like common sense forcing me into it.
Snow? Snow? Hmm, I don’t see any snow. Are you sure, Nano? Wait a second, let me check outside, be right back …
… Nope, definitely no snow.
Oh, shut up. ![]()
Just…go mix yourself another Piña Colada and talk to that scorpion sunning itself on yer wall or something.
Sniff. ![]()
looks like they changed it to -13 by morning…
70 city buses stuck, so metro transit closed down. Looks like the NOAA is placing the storm’s total at 17" and about 15 for St. Paul. Temperature will get colder. Last Friday they were predicting -20°F for Monday, but now it seems it will be about -10°F with gusts of wind to help the snow drift.
The bright side is the pollen count is fairly low, you guys are lucky. It’ll probably stay that nice until April.
24" in eastern Eau Claire Co. WI, 18" in Oshkosh and still coming down. One brother can’t get out the front storm door. 50°F here and I’m sweating from the bike ride.

One thing that I dislike is when people brush off just enough snow from their own vehicle windows to see and then get onto the highway creating a small blizzard for those behind them. Getting groceries should be entertaining.
Metrodome collapses. Watch the video!

I’m for stiff fines for driving with snow accumulation on top of vehicles. Last Dec. 20th we drove through DC on our way home to Wisconsin, they had 20" the day before. A large one ton van passed us with the classic scooped out front of about 18" of snow on top of the vehicle, he got about five cars in front of us when the whole mass lifted up and clobbered the cars behind it. All of west I495 near Tysons Corner, VA came to dead, screeching, car smashing stop. We were lucky, we could pick our way out of the mess quickly as we were near the source but there were multiple collisions in every lane. The far right lane wasn’t even open as that’s where they plowed up all the snow from the other lanes.
The Metrodome collapse is just pure luck for the Vikings I guess, I wonder when Brett’s going to retire next?
I never realized the snow accumulation thing on top of a car was so dangerous. I’ve always enjoyed doing that. I’ll stop.
'Round here it’s against the law. Of course enforcement is not strict be you semi or Volvo, but hey, it’s all probable cause in any case. If you’re gonna drive besnowed, don’t be more of a putz than you already are and ditch the bong already.
It’s an omen aspiring to Homeric proportions.
It’s a lizard, Nano. Uta stansburiana elegans. Definitely not a scorpion. Geez, Nano, I think that imaginary snow stuff has made you loopy.
