How do I transpose from C to D?

I’m trying to play The Wild Colonial Boy, but the only version of the song I can find written down is in C. So, if I were to transpose to D, what would I have to do?

(goes back to google, a defeated and sad whistling panda)

edited because it didn’t make sense

You mean you can only find it written in C?

gives a very sad nod

The digital tradition page has it in C and Bb. I can’t find it on Clips & Snips, or TheSession. Google only presents me with bad midi files.

:frowning:

You can now grovel.

Ooo! Awesome link. Thanks much. =D

For future reference, it’s rather easy…Move all the notes on the staff up one whole step, and change the key signature to c# and f#

Persoanlly, I would get ABCs, copy them and transpose them into D then use the tune-o-tron to convert it to sheet music. Or I would just learn it by ear.

Nuthin’ to it. I just put down the C harmonica and pick up the D harmonica. Hope this helps.

Of course that’s in G, not D, but we won’t quibble.

Ah, yes. I had assumed he meant “some kind of whistle-friendly key.” Which is quite presumptuous of me.

 Yup, but I think that’s what was wanted really, more power to your elbow.

Assuming you know how it goes, this would be a very good tune to start learning to play by ear with. Nice and easy. Go on, bite the bullet.
