Well, I’ve sold two flutes, my Potter and a not so nice Boehm metal student Rudall Carte, I needed money to move to Ireland. I might also sell a German made flute in F.
I’ve bought another piccolo for 20 (+5) euros, metal head and wooden lip plate, but I’ll receive it after the holidays.
I’ll need to buy a new case for my antique flute, because a new headjoint (by Murray) is being made for it, and I’d like to take both around.
I have purchased a few flutes on ebay during the past few weeks. I think of them as holiday acquisitions. The first flute is a Chinese-made band flute. I have three other Venus flutes (piccolo, concert flute, and alto flute), and I think that they very nice playing flutes and a terrific value. I bought this flute because I like the black nickel plating, which I also have on my piccolo. It is supposed to hold up better on the lip plate than my gold-plated flute. After all, for this price you wouldn’t expect the gold plating to be very thick. I also like the plateau-style keys that allow me to extend my fingers way over the keys and not worry about leaks. band flute
The second acquisition is a piccolo in C in cocobolo wood, made by Kevin Jones. I have had several of Kevin’s flutes in the past. I think that this piccolo is quite beautiful, and it plays well too. Kevin Jones piccolo
I know I’m getting a set of dizi (Chinese flutes) from my father-in-law. I hoping to get one of Doug’s Bb flutes as a gift from my dad, but that’ll be sometime during the “Christmas Season,” not on Christmas day itself.
At Thanksgiving, My MIL gave me her Uncle Harley’s Harmony Opus X (Jumbo Acoustic) that he bought brand new in the 70’s. I don’t know anything about Uncle Harley except that he had a stroke and his guitar sat untouched for over 10 years. Here’s an on-line photo of what one looks like. The guitar has a sweet sound. I’ve been playing a 12 string for so long, I have to learn to adjust. I wish I was playing it at Christmas Morning Mass but I don’t want to throw everyone off.
I just picked up a Dean Yang Boehm flute, i.e. typewriter / sound cannon. No way any simple system flute can compete with this thing in terms of volume; it’s almost too loud (have to rein it in much of the time). The mechanism is amazing and it’s a great flute for the price. I play trad tunes on it mainly in F, G dorian and D dorian, that is, all the F low whistle tunes I love.
Getting a new Goldie high D.
Still waiting for my Olwell Nicholson keyless.
Basically, at the end of this, I’ll have revamped my whole arsenal; then, the madness must stop.
I think the season is getting too much for me. I just came back to this thread … and managed to misread the title as “Holy Acquisitions!!!” As in, “Holy Acquisitions, Batman!!!”
