hole size on Doug Tipple vs Casey Burns

Hey Everyone,

I have been playing my Doug Tipple PVD inline hole flute for a few months now. Its fun, having played classical flute many years ago made picking up this flute much easier.

I want to upgrade to a wooden flute, and was checking Burns’ Beginner flutes. Does anyone who has played both know what the hole size on the Burns is compared to the Tipple? One of things that is keeping me from playing up to speed on the Tipple is the hole size. I just cant cover up the holes cleanly when i move my fingers up to speed. Its mostly likely me, but i was thinking a smaller holed flute might make it easier for me to play faster. I have not played many other flutes, only a blackwood Olwell. And that was well before i got my Tipple.

Anton,
I have and play both daily. I spend most of the day outside so the Tipple is usually with me.

There is not much similarity! The Tipple is very like a bamboo flute, the Burns’ is in the same key!

The Burns’ holes are much smaller, ergonomically placed. You should have no problem with it.

If you can get a good sound out of the Tipple you should be able to get many different good sounds out of the Burn’s!

I had a Burns and still have a Tipple (…been trying to find it a new home, but no luck so far). The Tipple holes are significantly bigger than the Burns. If you’ve mastered the Tipple, you’ll feel very comfortable on the Burns

You won’t find many flutes with holes anywhere near as big as the Tipple. Don’t worry about it – everything else will seem easy now!

gosh…and I just ordered a tipple…and currently playing a calmont…hm I wonder if I do better on the tipple because the calmont’s holes sure aren’t small.
what are the tipple’s holes like in millimetres?
maybe I should go for the burns if I will stick with the flute (most likely will)
