I’m far too young to have ever mixed with old timers (heheh), but musical heaven to me is to be sitting in a pub with about 4.37 pints of Guinness in me that I haven’t paid for, flanked by other like-minded musicians, not a piano-accordion or bodhran in sight, feeling that buzz of magical interaction on that elevated plane that you get every now and again whilst playing a good set of reels…
…as long as there are at least another 3.61 pints lined up…
If my wife ever reads this post (unlikely, but one does have to cover one’s a*%e), please note, dear, that I confined my definition to MUSICAL heaven.
Cheers!
Steve
Heaven indeed. Just recently had the opportunity to hear some taped recordings of oldtimers -and not so oldtimers, too- mostly playing in kitchens. This was a whole new level of the tradition beyond anything I’d heard before. There are no words to convey the communication that these musicians brought to their playing, and the sheer elegance of the combination of wild and sweet was unforgettable.
Hello, everyone. I’m new here (I read the faq, and I’ll try my best to keep to what it suggested). I experienced heaven when I went to my last session at my Celtic Music Studio. It was great to listen to everyone play, pick out prizes from the basket (I picked out Bara MacNeills CD Myopic), and talk traditional Irish music. It’s always great to be with people who share your interest.

Welcome Rob. Hope you can learn a bunch from these forums…and while you’re here, try the veal…but stay away from the brown acid, man. It’s bad. ![]()
Thanks Joe. I’m in the whistlerforum, also, and the forum for the flute. I focus mainly on the whistle forum, but I can tell I’ll be spending more time here. I listen to tons of Celtic music. I just have to differentiate between what is traditional and what isn’t.
Rob, the mad, mad whistler. ![]()
How come no one told ME that when I first posted? It would have been very helpful information… ![]()
…I musta missed your first posting…sorry. ![]()
