I had a workshop, and heard Laurence Nugent play this weekend. What an inventive and original player. Very vibrant with a lot of energy in his playing. If you get a chance to hear him play, jump on it. I really enjoyed listening to him.

I took flute and whistle lessons from Larry when I first started playing, almost 20 years ago, and took advantage of the opportunity to make dozens of private recordings that I still listen to today with great pleasure. His playing on both instruments is unique, powerful, intensely musical, and immediately recognizable. Although his whistle playing has received the international recognition it so richly deserves, I have always been puzzled that his flute playing is less widely appreciated, because, except for my son-in-law, there is nobody I would rather listen to on the flute.

I agree 100%. I remember hearing he was working on a new CD, but don’t remember hearing if it was ever released. I should go look for that. He’s one of the greats and is indeed underappreciated.
He is fantastic…I do wish he’d put out a new CD.

Is this one not recent enough?

Alas. My shallow search reveals no availability of that North Country CD - it’s not even mentioned on his handsome new website. ![]()
