I have a set of Skip Healy fifes one headjoint, two bodies. The bodies are Bb (deluxe model, 6-hole) and a 10-hole A body. The 10-hole body is, obviously fully chromatic…very cool. You haven’t lived until you’ve played one of Scottt Joplin’s rags on a fife! They come with a padded case
They are made of blackwood and sterling silver. Extraordinarlily nice and very powerful.
The new retail value of the set is $675. They have been babied.
I also have a 4-key (Eb, G#, Bb, short F) 18th century flute. It’s a good flute. C-nat is good with OXXOOO. I had Pat Olwell re-cut the embouchre which made it a much better flute (as you might expect
). It has an old repair on the barreljoint. The barrel is fully lined so it’s irrelevant to playing. The headjoint is unlined so it has a nice woody sound. It looks like rosewood but Pat said it was probably blackwood. I’m guessing it’s worth between $500 and $600.
The holes are smallish which makes it a very easy flute to fill and makes ornaments very crisp. It’s plenty loud for small group sessions. The reason I am selling is the thing plays low-d cranns by itself so I’m not getting any sleep at night!
It comes with a padded pistol case.
Seriously, it would be a good flute for someone to decide if they wanted keys before they spent $2-3000.
The flute is sold.
I’d be willing to sell (make an offer by PM) or trade. A good flute, a harp or good whistles would be considered.
Please respond by PM if interested.
Thanks,
