Goracle needs to walk the walk, IMO..

hmmmm…yep, it is. Do what you must. Perhaps we can make fun of hypocrisies only of non-politicians…

Well, c’mon. Isn’t it about where we do it? I’ve signed up at the site Congratulations set up. It’s showing some action.

And I can’t begin to tell you how nice it is to not be a moderator there. :smiling_imp:

Ironic, isn’t it, that even he who was Jesus, wasn’t actually listened too by many, and was reviled, denied and ultimately even crucified by the powers of the time for causing discomfort among them? Funny to use that as an argument against this man now, who makes no claims to anything but knowledge and motivation.

I don’t see the humor in making fun of a man who is pointing out a truth. Whether he is the prime example of what to do in response to that truth doesn’t in the least actually affect whether it is true or not. It is the ability of those who are shown that truth to deal with it that should be at question. If I can’t see that waste and misuse are wrong just because the person who pointed it out still manages to waste and misuse, I’m pretty darned dense, myself.

Incidently, I have long employed many energy conservation tactics, some that others consider ‘over-the-top’, but I am not living totally hand to mouth, off the grid and devoting 24/7 to working the land to feed and clothe myself and family. Oh, and I drive an SUV. Does that make me an invalid source for info on cutting back on my own and others’ impact on the earth? Only to those who are more interested in picking me apart than in spreading knowledge of how to change things for the better. This is where that cliche about “If you aren’t part of the solution, then you are part of the problem.” is pertinent. Boy Howdy!

Also, Gore is busy spreading the message as widely, as quickly as he can, because that is of far more importance than anything he, personally, can do to lessen his own impact (footprint, if you prefer) - priority does make some difference. He does more, more widely, more often and with more, so he will impact more - that doesn’t negate the fact that we all need to listen up and change the way we do and allow things to be done.

If we need a perfect person to tell us that things can be done better, before we can believe it, we are in a sad state indeed.

It’s not “political” because Gore is an ex-politician and keeps saying over and over again that he’s not running again.

Yes, it’s controversial, but if we can’t talk about anything controversial what’s the point?

If Gore wants to make a difference, it is part of his mission to sell tough choices, not feel good rich folk stuff like he is doing. In my opinion, that kind of stuff won’t make a wit’s worth of difference given the size of the problem [as described by the alarmists].

No, that kind of stuff is in fact going to make all the difference. The solution to global warming is dead simple: burn less fossil fuels. How do you do that? You use less electricity, natural gas, gasoline, coal, oil. Read this quote from the Energy Star site: “If every American home changed out just five high-use light fixtures or the bulbs in them with ones that have earned the ENERGY STAR, each family would save about $60 every year in energy costs, and together we’d save about $6.5 billion each year in energy costs and prevent greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions from more than 8 million cars.”

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions does NOT require major changes in our lifestyle. Long-term sustainability of the planet may require that, but we can reduce emissions significantly without much pain and in fact with a profit. There are hundreds of examples of companies that are saving thousands and indeed millions of dollars a year by improving their energy efficiency. DuPont has been saving something like $90 million a year by reducing its greenhouse gases well beyond the levels in the Kyoto Protocol.

The solution is not to shiver in the dark, but to start by using less energy to continue our current lifestyles. People can adjust to change gradually; they’ll resist it if it’s sudden.

Of course it is. It is not, however, uncivil. So… do you stomp on it now, because it could get uncivil, or do you allow it to continue and just stomp on anyone who becomes uncivil? That is moderation. I hope you have an easy day of it.

Why do you think I haven’t locked it yet?

But I am in an uncomfortable position, thanks.

I’d be much more comfortable with in the Rubber Room, myself, but that’s not on this block anymore…

As long as we’re talking in the Pub about the
hypocricy of ex-politicians,
how about the Juanita Broadrick forcible rape
charge against Bill Clinton? If he’s a rapist, that makes
him a hypocrit too. The sexual abuse of women is as important
as the environment. He bit her face repeatedly to force
her to comply, she says. She told three people immediately
what had happened and who had done it. They saw
the blackened lips.

http://www.hillaryproject.com/index.php?/wiki/Juanita_Broaddrick/

George Stephanopolous called her the most credible
thing he’d ever seen on TV. It was NBC, Dateline, Lisa Meyers
did the interview.

I mean, if we can’t talk about controversial things,
what’s the point? This isn’t political; Bill isn’t running
again.

The question is where? There’s an alternative venue
that’s just been created. Shall we use it?

I take it you missed this, then:

Why not try to make it work?

Thanks for the bus ticket. Is it going to be linked like the other forums, as was mentioned earlier?

Edited to add… currently out of order.

If I were a mod, that would get the stomp… Not because it is incorrect, nor even because it is absoultely unrelated to the topic at hand, but because it is most obviously intended to up the stress level of the thread and force the hand of the mods. I am not a mod.

Hope so. I think it might just be the business. For now, we’ll have to make do.

The site seems to have some initial problems, or it might just be my computer. Sometimes I’ll try to access a page and get an error report.

That’s it! Dale, Nano, Joseph, et al. will henceforth be known as:

not much color…

Man… you know it’s wrong to focus on color… get with the program, man!

Ooooo…I’ll take one of those in pink.
