Size, tone, etc. I’ve come to quite enjoy my sole Bb whistle. On the main C&F site it lists Bb as a standard key, but I’ve not noted that many firms that have a current model in that key. (And I’m not noting the exact whistle I’m playing at present so as to not slant the replies one way or another… .)
Any recommendations for good (and great) Bb whistles?
Everything Ronaldo Reyburn touches is gold. I also really enjoyed my Bleazey Bb, but the Cn was extremely sharp. I have a Sindt Bb that’s pretty okay. And I still like the old Generation Bb pretty good, too. Oh, and my old Water Weasel Bb was wonderful.
I had an Overton Bb once, and I loved the tone. Absolutely loved it. I didn’t like the hard blowing aspect of the upper octave and sold it. I want to buy another and have them dial back the pressure requirement a tad.
Ditto. My pretty new Burke Brass Bb is a hell of a whistle. Mellow tone that can project (I play it in the Jazz ensemble in my school), it isn’t loud, but it can hold its own. Strong low note, it is the only whistle I can’t easily overblow the low note on. Sweet sounding upper octave, it is never shrill. Pure, sweet tone with a touch of roughness to give it a character all its own. Overall, it probably has every thing I have looked for in a Whistle, and not just a Bb whistle.
I’ll second (or third or whatever the count is up to now) a vote for Susatos.. I have also heard a stunnign copeland Bb. Lots of that was the player though, but still, he definately knew he had a great whistle.
