ghost D or trill?

I’ve been studying The Dance Music of Seamus Ennis and have been going over The Wandering Minstrel and at the beginning of the tune Mr. Ennis creates either a ghost D or some type of trill. Can anyone tell me how to create the same sound at the start of the tune?

That’s a slide from the upper octave Eb (also known as the ghost d or e or whatever it is) to a back d with vibrato.

Ennis also does the same on the Flags of Dublin set on the same recording and the opposite (back d to ghost [then back to back d]) on the New Demesne.

Thanks for the info.
