I"ve had an order with Pat since 2003 and wondered if the day would ever come, due to his health problems. Got a call from him today, yay! My original order was for a concert D and C in blackwood. Anyway, I was thinking about asking Pat if instead of the C, I could get another D, but a different model, such as a Traveler. What are his other models like? I’ll talk to him tomorrow, so any input would be great. Thanks! John.
I have the Travelers in a C/D set, G, and Low D with, hopefully, a Bflat/A set on the way. Although consistent in appearance and workmanship and playability, I wouldn’t characterize them as a group with respect to how they sound, i.e., tone and volume. Generally, they are all clear, round sweet sounding. The D/C is rather loud, but well balanced and not piercing with very pure sound. The G, IMHO, the best of the lot to date, is freakishly sweet or heavenly sounding - really beautiful unique tone and moderate volume. The D is also moderate in volume, pure in sound and perhaps the least exceptional of the lot; it is in three pieces with a turnable bottom joint and I find it relatively easy to play, perhaps due to the small or moderate sized tone holes; others have complained about the reach. I really like them. Hope that helps.

PS I think Wanderer recently did a review of some Travelers.
Actually, the review was on the concert D with C tube and Traveler D body. He focussed his review on the Concert D though.
As far as asking for a different whistle… Remember you waited 2+ years for your current ones. I don’t think someone would want you to jump in and get their D because you changed your mind and I am pretty sure you would not want to wait even longer for the new tube.
That said, my motto has always been: “Don’t ask, don’t get.” That is how I got my D/C Traveler set in a trade.
Now, if you are REALLY interested in the travelers, maybe we should talk
(see above)?
One o’ these days I’d like a Traveller or two.
Philo, love your avatar!
Flattery will get you nowhere, my good man and colleague. I’ll be Travelering alone, as it were.
You too exhibit an astonishing degree of selectivity in your avatar!

I grew up watching the Jeremy Brett series ( as well as reading the stories), so naturally he’s my favorite Sherlock.
Having played both myself, I’d say stick with the concert series. They feel more substantial in the hand, are a dream to play (like butta!) and have the better tone IMHO. There was something about the traveller series that just didn’t click with me as well.
I grew up watching Basil Rathbone, but Jeremy Brett became my favorite Sherlock as well. Great minds…
