KC - I have said whistle and posted a comparative review of the Traveler, Copeland and Overton Low G whistles about a year ago. I happen to have both the Traveler and the Copeland with me now, and if you need something further, I’ll send to you later. Two quick points: One, the Overton was very good, and I sold it. Two, my Traveler is not for sale, an indication of how I feel about it. I believe in my earlier review I stated that I thought the Traveler might be the best whistle of any kind or key I’d ever played. I’ve since spent more time with the Copeland G and recieved a new Copeland soprano D nickel - the D is the best whistle in the universe and the Copeland G is right there with it.
Traveler: Two piece tuneable anodized (black) aluminum with nickel ferrules; cylindrical. Cosmetically beautiful and perfectly crafted by Pat O’Riordan - the tuning slide is the best I’ve ever felt - feels hydraulic in its action. Perfectly balanced, very good in low end, sublime in the high. Low air requirements, small tone holes, effortless transitions, moderate volume, warm, mellow round tone (strong not piercing), yet uncomplicated pure clear crisp sound. When I want to play and mellow out with a simply beautiful tone, I reach for the Traveler; when I want to ring (wring?) out my soul, I reach for the Copeland (resonant fantastic bottom end, very good, esp. for Copeland high end). The Copeland has become a daily player for me and there is no whistle more rewarding for me to play.
ALthough the Traveler doesn’t have the depth and breadth of tone of the Copeland, its tone is so beautiful, elegant and easy, one could say, why reach for anything more? That’s taste.

Further note: I also have the Low D Traveler (3-piece), which, while a very solid instrument, I found somewhat lacking in character for a Low D, i.e., I think there are better choices in that key. However, I wouldn’t sell this one either.

My copeland G is the best whistle I’ve ever played.

Thank you very much for the information about O’Riordan Low G whistle. I am on the waiting list for O’Riordan Low G and B flat whistles. I was ordered high C and D whistles just before Mr. O’Riordan stopped accepting new orders. But he is kind enough to accept my changes from high C and D to B flat and Low G. I probably have to wait for two years for the whistles. I have Burke’s Aluminum Low G and like the whistle very much. Do you play Burke’s Low G before? If yes, would you please tell me the comparison between Burke’s Aluminum Low G and O’Riordan’s Aluminum Low G. Jim, I would appreciate if you could show me where I can find out your article about comparative review of Low G whistls.
