german medieval band using pipes in their newest single...

Hey folks,

just watched a performance of the german medieval band In Extremo on TV when they were presenting their contribution for Thüringen to Germany’s end elemination for the Eurovision Song Contest…they’re contributing with their new single, called “Liam”. And they used uilleann pipes, for the very first time in their complete history. You see the coherence?

On one hand, I like that the pipes are introduced to other musical styles - they fit quite well to the medieval rock music in principle, but on the other hand - they dare to call their song “Liam”? If the pipes at least would have been played in an “irish” way…but they sounded just like somebody who knows how to play a german medieval bagpipe tries to immitate their sound on the pipes. Without many success, of course..

Just had to vent my “anger”.

Greetings,

Eurovision Song Contest … medieval rock music. Very scary.

Hopefully the NSA is not monitoring this site.

Hey! Man, don’t be so quick to condemn…it was the EuroVision contest in 1994, with Michael Flatley, and the lady dancer,uh…
(what was her name?..“my-old-flame”?) and a line of Tupan drummers, that got the RIVER DANCE “thing” going, with a much expanded show, that got the leg bone connected to thigh bone…huh?..
expansion of Irish step dancing… and may I say…buh…buh…bag…
Irish Bagpiping…what with the appearance of Davy Spillane playing a
SLOW AIR for contrast…
So I can only wish the same sucess for Das Dudel-sacke Gemeinschaft !
Wieder-sehn, mein herr, gutte auf! Johann Katzen-Jammer

It’s godawful music, so it should go down quite well on Eurovision.
