I left Galway in '84 to work in Canada for a couple of years - the rest as they say is history. I certainly miss the pubs and the great music, but my family has grown up here so a visit now and then has to suffice - My Mom and 3 of my brothers and my sister still live there. My other brother lives in Lorient (Galway’s twin city in Brittany) and owns the Galway Inn there - another great Irish Trad. pub of course.

Galway has a university? WOW - when I finish posting this, I’m going to look up Galway on the internet, check out what the university is like. Although I’m 14, I’m already thinking about various colleges I’d like to go to and I had my mind set on Cambridge, but now that I know Galway has a university, I might want to go there - not only would I get to go to a fantastic univerity, I could also be surrounded by loads of good music - perfect! Thanks! I’d love to go to Boston - is it really nice there? It would be really wizard to meet you all one day and get together for a session - who knows, it might happen! Thanks for complimenting my signature!

I would imagine Dublin to be a bit of a tourist trap, though I’d still like to visit there sometime. When you go celebrate St. Patricks day - I hope you have a good time! I know I’m going to try and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day a little, I never really gave it much thought; but since I’ve become so interested in all things Irish, I have to celebrate it - I might wear all green for it; is that considered celebrating? Thanks - I’d love to go to a session in London - hopefully by the time I’m old enough to go, I’ll still be talking to you guys!

Galway is 60 miles north of where I’m typing this. A nice place but not as mystical or magical as you might think. It’s also in ‘the Wild west’ of Ireland (implying that it’s a lively place - and not just for the music!).
Martin: If you’re over this neck of the woods (Limerick area) when you’re in Ireland in March, do say hello.

Ah, Galway! I’ll be there (again) in September, playing my concertina (and maybe the whistle) at The Crane Bar. I was in Taaffe’s pub last September 11 when the disaster struck the World Trade Center - kinda put a damper on things, but Ireland really sympathized with us and closed down completely the following Friday in a day of National Mourning - never saw an entire country close down before!
No kidding! I was probably no more than 500 feet away from you when the WTC went down. I was in Galway, finishing up a summer in Ireland, and I was meant to fly back on the 12th. For obvious reasons, that didn’t happen. Walking around Galway city was surreal when it happened because nobody had any idea of the enormous tragedy that was taking place.

Howdy, I must confess that I haven’t looked at this thread till now. There is so much talk about Generation whistles and in my busey state I just haven’t checked it out.
Well, yesterday I was down south installing a wine cellar myself and my colleges built. There is a great music store that way, and I knew they had whistles. I wanted to get a copper Generation D, I have a nickle D and I’m not to fond of it. I do have a Copper C, a great whistle, and a Bflat that I ruined trying to tweak it. It was fine when I bought it, but I couldn’t leave well enough alone.
So I had two whistles in mind, the Bflat and the D, in copper mind you. Well they didn’t have a D, but one Bflat, and one Eflat. Looking back on it today, I should have bought both. I ended up with the Eflat.
After some very minor tweaks, a bit of exacto and retunning, this little whistle kicks!! I’m starting to have a fond liking for the Generations. But I’m sticking to the copper numbers for now.

Woah! (Or should that be "Whoa!"??) As someone who has both a fond and sentimental liking of Generations, I must ask, when did they start producing copper models, and how can one get ahold of them? I don't remember seeing any at The Whistle Shop, and anyways, it costs about $50 US to have whistles sent to Japan, not counting customs. Anyway, I'd love to try one of the copper ones out. Any info on how to find them?
