I was in the shower earlier (I love to sing in the shower.. I have a problem.. lol) when I started to think about my great grandfather MacLaine that my mother is always telling me about…
Now I’ve always known he was a Scot, but it never occured to me to ask anyone here about him..
Sadly, I don’t even know his first name, which would be a huge help in finding out more of his connection to the clan MacLaine (MacLane). All I do know is that he owned a hotel in Canadian, Texas around the mid 60s… It’s a complete long shot that anyone might even vaguely know who I’m talking about chuckles but worth asking nonetheless =)
Usually you’ll want to talk with your immediate and extended family first to learn as many details as you can about the ancestor you are researching. Find out his full name, where he might have been born, whether he had any brothers and sisters, and so on. Then you are ready to expand your search to the Internet and elsewhere. I checked the U.S. Social Security Death Index for anyone who has died in Texas with the surname MacLaine. I found only one name:
JACK A MACLAINE
Born: 21 Aug 1927
Died: 29 Feb 1992
I’m not sure if he is your relative; maybe he also spells the name MacLane. Anyway, if you can get some more details it will really help your search. Good luck.

Would have responded sooner, but my modem decided to die on me aain grumbles
I’m going to have to get in touch with my mom’s younger brother… he might know whom I could speak with. It’s a long, sordid story, but my grandmother was an unwed mother at one point, and.. in the 60s.. well.. heh. that was a big nono chuckles so I don’t know a lot of my family… but I think in fourty years they would have changed at least a little… I hope I have a great uncle in Indiana that I’ve never even met, that could tell me a lot about the family; James Ludwyck. Some big politician or some such at one point, I think. chuckles
Anyway.. take care all
Until my modem dies again! laughs I’ll try to find out something from my uncle, since he’s the closest relative that might know anything. My aunt Sheri lives in North Carolina (haven’t seen her in years chuckles) aaaanyway.
