Four nice Rudalls were sold yesterday 18th, June, by G&H: R&R 5023, R&R 5099, R&R 4239 and a boxwood R&R piccolo.
R&R 5023 had a Boosey & Co. head joint and barrel went for £900 + 20% + VAT + 3% online fee.
R&R 5099 with 10 keys, original case and grease pot went for £1500 + 20% + VAT + 3% online fee.
R&R 4239 went for £1450 + 20% + VAT + 3% online fee. This flute was auctioned by G&H in 2007
RR&C boxwood piccolo, 1 missing key hole filled, has ivory head joint cap and end cap went for £280 + 20% + VAT + 3% online fee
I watched but did not partake. All these vintage flutes for less than the price of the fine Olwell 6 key that sold recently 
.
There was also an 8-key Eb Hawkes & Son £680 + 20% + VAT + 3% online fee, and a 7-key Clementi & Co. £980 + 20% + VAT + 3% online fee.
Had a stab at the unusual looking Metzler but outbid. 
Some tasty looking flutes there for sure, and a few more serial numbers for your archive to boot.

The ‘piccolo’ is actually a Bb band flute. I have only ever seen one boxwood piccolo.
It is featured somewhere on the old piccolo blog.

Just a couple 5099 and 5023. 5099 was tempting but I doubt I’d ever use those bottom keys, so no. I was able to exercise restraint this time. Also it seems as if the prices are starting to creep up this year.

5099 looked really unusual. Like a D foot with a steroid extension into the bass/alto register!
But with the flexibility of a standard bore and finger stretch in the main register and a more ? recent serial number?
Incredible how crafty the worksmanship on these flutes look. The bakelite Boosey looks like the kind of carry everywhere flute. Congratulations to whomever won it.

#5099 has a Bb foot, like my #2103, which is fantastic. Had I had the money, I’d have tried for it because it also has a Tromlitz Bb extension lever for R1 to the thumb Bb key, like my “main” R&R #4683. Given its much later serial number and large holes, I’d anticipate it being better suited to A=440 use than is my #2103 (which is happiest c A=425-30). However, I note from the photos that it had seen some serious use (a hint of its playing qualities?) and has very, very worn finger-holes - to the extent that IMO a full restoration ought to include bushing them to restore the surface profile.

Re: the GH auction on Thurs 18th, there were also several RC&Co. post-Bohm flutes including a High Pitch Radcliff and an 1867 plus a “New Metal” unibody standard Bohm at modern pitch.

A nice Rudall. I totally missed that one. Good sighting Radcliff 
. I’ll pop it into the Rudall register, I’m assuming the serial number is 2202 or 2021. Looks like the last two numbers on the barrel are 02. The barrel looks very short, perhaps the silver indicates a repair, or is it a reverse tenon. Long F-key missing, hole plugged, one touch broken, broken block, missing end cap. Otherwise looks in good condition, no apparent head joint cracks.
