I have an earlier M&E flute great tone strong low D five piece with flat rings and fully lined head joint, the flute has the cut-away at the back of the embouchure hole, its in great condition, I know some refer to M&E’s as rustic and slightly rough around the edges, my sister in law who is a silversmith has done a great job finishing it, the tone holes are now smooth an the cut-away was a bit rough which is now nicely finished, all in all it looks and sounds great, not sure how it compares to the new R&R,
it has great volume, it does weigh more than wood, I will try and get an accurate weight, the tuning slide fits lovelly the next two sections do require some ptfe tape to give a really nice fit, I will supply a roll.

I purchased the recent (FS)Reviol six keyed flute in Rosewood,
the M&E’s have a great tone and I was considering a six keyed
M&E for a long time as I travel a fair bit, and am one of those
early stage flute players recenty move over from high and low
whistles, who worries about wood especially when travelling, so
I guess I have finally got over the fear ( hopefully ) I would keep the M&E
but I feel concentrating on one flute in the early stages is easier for me,
moving from whistles, low and high in various metals is a learning
curve but the sound and the fact that you are creating the sound is the real bonus, I still have some whistles which I love to play and practice
tunes on and they’re great for just throwing in a bag, I probably wont
be taking the new six key to any overly adverse climates though.

No need to worry. Just carry a plastic bag with you and when you’re done playing, don’t swab it out with cotton. Use a silk rag with some almond oil on it to run through the flute. Then put the flute, in the case, into the bag and seal it. The flute will create its own micro-climate.
This may take as long as twenty seconds. But you’ll have your good flute with you and you won’t have to worry about the flute drying out or absorbing moisture from the environment.
