FS: Overton Low C (Hardy made/Goldie tweaked)

Hi,

This offer is for you, my fellow chiffers, before I resort to an eBay sale.

I am selling a great Overton low C. (It is not the one that was up on eBay for $300 this past week, and it’s not the one that recently sold on this forum for $50 recently with the filed down sound blade.)

I’ve had this whistle for only a month and though I paid $300 at the time, I am only asking US$275 (shipping and insurance included). This whistle sounds great, and the holes are easily accessible (using piper’s grip), because the holes are small. However, I am partial to big holes (my favorite whistle is my Lochlan low D with massive holes). I have large hands and fat fingers, so i prefer larger holes, which is why I’m selling it. If I keep it much longer I am liable to carve out bigger holes, chop it and weld in a tuning slide to compensate for the larger holes. So, before I ruin it due to my lack of tweaking skills, I am offering it for sale to you.

The original owner told me he bought this whistle new 10-12 years ago in Ireland at Walton’s. It is a fixed-tuning Overton made by Phil Hardy, but recently given an overhaul by Colin Goldie this past year. Colin retro-fitted it with a small section of tubing inside the foot of the whistle to correct a sharp bell note. When warmed up this whistle is in great tune, plays easily (easy to medium blower for it’s range), and has the classic Overton sound. It’s good for slow airs and fast reels. It’s been well taken care of, with only a few minor surface scratches.

PM or email me if interested.

Randy

Photos! If there are no takers by this time tomorrow, she’s going up on eBay for $300. (Can’t believe what eBay is charging these days if your item sells!)

Get it while you can! Here are the pics:

And here’s a pic of the tweak Colin Goldie did this past year. It’s a metal ring on the inside of the foot to correct the sharp bell note. Works like a charm:
