FS: My Antique African Blackwood Six Key flute

I am selling an antique six key wooden flute which I don’t play as much as I should.

With respect and so far as I can tell from photos, that isn’t “ebony”. Looks like either African Blackwood or possibly what Jon Cornia identifies as Madagascar Rosewood. True ebony (of whatever species) would not have the surface open grain lines - those are distinctively Grenadilla/African Blackwood IMO, though how much they show depends on the fineness of the particular piece of wood. (Cocus either doesn’t have them or they are much, much finer than that.)

Hello Jem, thanks for the information. I’ve just done a comparison with another “known” ebony flute head joint, and it’s definitely lighter in colour and more open grained than the known ebony one. I shall add a footnote to the ebay listing.
Thanks again, Joseph.
