I am interested in the Fred Rose Whistle. I noticed your email address. I use RR myself and I live in Ohio less than an hour from Columbus.

The Rose is one of the finest whistles available, IMO.

I keep hearing about Rose whistles. Anybody have a picture/website?

The Burke is the low G, by the way, and may be spoken for

The Burke low G is Sold.

The Fred Rose has brass ferrules, I believe he’s now doing silver. His custom case is of course included.

Boy that carrying case on the Fred Rose site is awesome (the whistle is great too, but) does anyone know if you can buy these separate?

I did not know that Fred did brass ferrules. Are you sure they are not the gold ones?

Fred’s website is not up to date. He no longer carries that particular case. He has a new one available not. He mainly sells them as part of the price of the whistle. Send me an email, Alespa, and I will tell you some further details.

Maybe they’re gold-plated brass- mine doesn’t taste like brass but the fittings are gold-colored. Sure wish all makers of high-end whistles supplied decent cases like Rose does or at the very least offered that as an option…

I can confirm that the ferrules on Fred’s whistles are gold-plated brass. I have heard concerns by some about the gold plate wearing off, but I’ve not had that problem nor have I personally heard of anyone else having the problem (and though I’m not 100% sure, I don’t think anyone has reported such a problem to Fred). If anyone has a different experience and would like to put me right on that, please do feel free to do so.

After hearing someone make a negative comment about the gold-look ferrules (I think someone described them as ‘gaudy’ or something similar!), Fred, ever the perfectionist, decided to investigate the possibility of using solid silver ferrules as an alternative. Now you can choose silver if you wish, and having seen the first one he produced, using silver, I have to say that the silver looks fabulous. Either with siver ferrules or with brass ones, it’s a fantastic whistle.

Mick

Actually, I can confirm that silver is basically the only choice. He is not tooled up to do the gold any longer.

Thanks for the info. I wasn’t aware that Fred no longer offers brass as an option.

Mick

Miiiiiiick!!! Hey man, good to see you around! It’s been a while, hope you’ve been well. Don’t be such a stranger!

Loren

All whistles sold, thank you to all!

Hey, Loren! It’s really nice to get a warm welcome from one of the forum patriarchs. It’s good to know I’ve not been forgotten. Okay, I probably shouldn’t be surprised if I was because my absence has been long and total, though I have done a bit of lurking around here now and again. I’ve been keeping well on the whole, thank you, and I hope you have too. Yes, life has been, and continues to be, good. I’m still playing, though most people probably wonder, as my web site hasn’t been updated in ages. I hope to remedy that before too long. I think a comment I found on a Russian web site, stating what a pity it is that my site hasn’t been updated has hit a nerve with me! So watch out for some new tunes and maybe a little surprise.

I’ll try not to be such a stranger!

Mick

Hi Mick

how could this ever happen! I am quite new here so it would be strange to welcome you. But I know your web site for a longer time and I’m looking foreward to your update.

Silvano

Hi, Silvano, and thank you.

Okay…I can feel the pressure building…update, update, update…

Mick

Yes, yes, update, update!
And get those cool videos posted while you’re at it!

Gary, you mean the videos that make me look like a raccoon? Yes, I think that’ll be what appears next (there goes the little surprise!). I also have a few tunes I want to record. What really holds me up and slows down new tunes appearing is preparing the notation, but I now have a willing special assistant who is very encouraging, so…well, I really am feeling the pressure! :astonished:
