That’s easy!

Could it be one of the KDJ flutes we’ve seen discussed? Check out:

The photo is blurry on the link, but it seems that with his flutes “KDJ” is burned under the embouchure and not the same as the original post’s marks.

A quick look through Chiff & Fipple Wooden Flute Makers List doesn’t suggest anything either.

Looks rather like the brand used by the K-Don Cattle Co. of Alpine, Texas.

Could it be that some nearsighted cowpoke accidentally branded his flute? *

  • I recognize that this does nothing to advance the topic but could not help myself. Sorry.

 It was difficult…however :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for your input (some helpful, some not!). It was suggested that it may be Aire DeKeyser. I have had a DeKeyser flute in the past and the marks do not match.

Does he have more than one?

Here is the information from Brad Hurley’s Flute Makers and Dealers page.

I contacted Arie De Keyzer. Definately not one of his. The search goes on.

How about Arie De Keyzer Soze?

Someone just got a very lovely coccobolla flute from him on eBay. Anyone know how it is (ie maybe a C&F-er got it)? They sure look nice. I wonder if he’s improved the embouchre and low notes since the prior string of comments a few years ago?

Well, I didn’t find out who bought the other one, but I last week bought one in cocobolo and it has just arrived. I’m at work so can’t give it an extensive playing yet, but I’ll say a few preliminary things: of course it’s beautiful wood and seems very nicely made. I don’t see any “fuzzy” stuff inside the tube. Brass barrel with red thread seems very sturdy. Kevin told me this is an “improved” model. I played it very briefly and it has made an excellent first impression. The very lowest notes may not quite be up to my McGee, but they’re very good. Very easy to play, nice in tune, responsive high notes. I can’t wait to give it more of a play, and compare it head on with some other roughly slightly higher priced but good flutes I have. I’ll give more of a report, or maybe even post a youTube in the next week or so. Note: I’m not a pro, but perhaps a decent intermediate player. It seemed like some of the comments from a few years ago were beginners, so maybe this is a little more helpful as to what Kevin Jones is now doing. By the way, he’s a nice guy and was very responsive (I have no personal or commercial interest at all in KDJ). There’s one going on eBay in a few hours today.
Best,
Jaydoc

Maybe we ought to discuss KDJ flutes? It has little to do with the original topic but at least the posts make some sense (although I’m not sure about the thought process).
I am 100% sure that there is no relationship between the makers mark and KDJ flutes.
Believe it or not, I have tried most of the obvious lines of research to discover who this flute maker is.

Thanks for everyone’s input.
