Flute Case

Does anybody have a suggestion for where I can get a nice flute case that won’t cost me more than the flute

The Terry McGee GLP that I got on eBay came with a pistol case, but I’d rather have a standard case to carry around in public!

Doc has an assortment of cases at his website: www.irishflutestore.com

I bought a case on eBay, some foam rubber and velvet at JoAnn Fabrics, and made a real nice one - all for about $20!

Do a forum search - there have been previous threads on this issue…

In the same boat. While it was very nice to receive a pistol case with my new Copley & Boegli, I get the feeling I look like someone who is about to go postal, especially when I carry it into work to keep it warm.

Personally, I wouldn’t worry about it.

It’s been my experience that people will react to the way you behave, rather than to what you’re carrying. You could walk into work with a teddy bear, and if you behaved as if you were hiding something, then someone would probably overreact. Alternatively, if you just carry your flute in and behave as if it’s the most natural thing in the world, folks are likely to accept it is the most natural thing in the world.

Now if you want another case because you’d prefer one or because your flute needs a better/different case, then that’s fine, too. FYI, I use this case:

The Vanguard number for it is GDS-7230C, and I carry two flutes in it. I think I paid around $40 for it, but the best price I found on the internet just now was about $50. It has been through several airport scanners, and none of the security people have even mentioned it, although I did tell tthe guard that it was a flute the first time I flew with it.

Hope this helps,

Oh yeah, the description on Vanguard’s page says it weighs 4.41 lbs, but I’m pretty sure that’s the shipping weight. I don’t think mine weighs nearly that much.

I have a couple of old silver flute cases I have adapted to carry my wood flutes. I just took out cross sections of wood from the bottom. They make great travel cases, easy to carry on a plane and great protection against damage.
Cheers:)

For what it’s worth, I took a zip up CD case (the Case Logic-type with the “pages” of plastic holders for CDs, 2 sleeves to a page), took out the insert that holds all the CD sleeves, got some foam rubber like you get computer parts shipped in (denser and stiffer than just furniture foam rubber) and cut to fit my flute.

It’s light, protects my flute well, and was easy to put together.

Hope that helps.
