Many thanks to Jim for providing me with a bamboo flute to practice on and also to Tom for his kind offer as well. I received it last night and believe I can be taken off the respirator in a couple of days.
Actually, I did manage to get one or two recognizable musical tones out of it just prior to passing out and resisted the urge to run for my nearest (always at arms legnth)loyal and true whistle.
Please tell me that there is some benefit beyond that derived from playing whistles?

Ar, ar!! I’ve got a G flute I made early on, that I’ve been waiting to bestow upon an enemy. Oh, it’s in perfect tune, all right, but it takes the wind of a commercial jackhammer compressor to get a proper sound out of it! If there’s somebody you know that deserves to blow their lungs out into space, send 'em to me – it’s real pretty, and I’ll make 'em a real Good Deal! (heh, heh…)
