Florida Tionol 2005

Just a reminder, the 2005 Florida Tionol is next weekend and it isn’t too late to register. Hope to see a bunch (if not all  ) of you there!

Here’s a message from one of the orginizers of the 2005 Florida Tionol…

Hi there tooters, squeezers, bangers, bowers, and strummers!

You are being contacted because you’ve registered (or nearly
registered) for the Florida Tionol! The event is less than two weeks
away, and we’d like you to know a few details about what’s going on.

The concert venue has been finalized. Our wonderful instructors for the
workshop will be performing on Saturday Feb 5 from 7:30 to 9:30 at
Durty Nelly’s Pub in downtown Gainesville (208 W University Ave). After
9:30, Harry O’Donohue will be performing (Irish vocals) until closing.
A session may or may not be happening at the pub… stay tuned.

Also, we are trying not to invest too much money in things like
T-shirts, so we have a request to ask of all participants who might
like a T-shirt: Bring your own plain T-shirt (white is suggested), and
we will Iron-On our lovely design for you for a very very small price.
I’ll have a few T-shirts already made for purchase, but not too many…
so bring your own T-shirt and I’ll whip out my hot iron at various
times during the weekend. It may sound tacky, but these things really
look great (you can’t tell they’re Ironed-On).

Additionally, this year we will be selling our Uilleann Piping Desk
Calendar (it’ll run from February 2005 through January 2006). We will
be taking orders (so bring checkbook) at the Tionol, and I should have
them into the mail to you by the following week or week and a half. You
can take a close look at a sample at the Tionol… ALL proceeds go
toward the 2005 Florida Tionol. $12 each.

Please encourage all of your Irish Musician Friends to attend this
years Tionol - with 9 instructors (and one bodhran maker), it is the
biggest one we’ve had yet. With all the hurricanes squeezing
pocket-books and all those Superbowlers stealing our hotel rooms… our
turnout is a little light… the added benefit to you is a small class
size!

Best wishes,

Kathleen Cavanagh

oh yes, and one more thing…

Hi folks,

Just a few more notes about the Tionol. We’re excited to announce that
we are having ceili dancing on Friday night at the School of Massage
for those who are interested! At around 5:30 Virginia Boone and Piper
Hatcher of the Inisheer Irish Dance Company will be teaching and
reviewing the dances. After the dinner, you are welcome to either
session with others or join in the ceili dancing (two separate events).
The dances planned are the Walls of Limerick, The Haymakers jig, The
Fairy Reel (tentative) and The Seige of Ennis.

So here’s Friday night schedule:

5:30 PM Ceili dance instruction
7 PM Dinner
9ish - sessioning / more ceili dancing (two separate rooms)

Please check out our website for last minute details, directions, times
and interesting notes (i.e. I’ve fixed it!!!). You can take a look at
the T-shirt design and calendar cover now.

We hope you all arrive safely and soundly with no bad weather delays…
the weather forecast calls for temps in the upper 60s next weekend, but
checkout www.weather.com for updates through the week.
