Bob says Hannah and Ike gave Cap Haitien over 18 inches of rain in 24 hours (according to his “garbage can estimate”), and at last report it’s still raining. Since the orphage in Cap is about seven inches above sea level, it will take weeks for it to dry out, and they will have mosquito booms and sewage in the water all the while. Gas is over $10/gallon, and diesel fuel is nowhere to be found. But everybody in Cap seems to be pretty much taking it in stride.
The real suffering is in Gonaive, just down the peninsula. There are so many bridges out from flash flooding that no aid can get in except by boat or helicopter. Sounds like it’s really, really bad over there.
Please pray for the people in Gonaive, that the roads can get opened up so help can get in. And if anybody has a big boat or a helicopter you aren’t using, email me.
