Anyone know of a really cool Irish “Fling” that they would like to share? I have several recordings of Flings but they just do not captivate my attention. All are very nice, however.
Can you please assist me with a link where I can hear the tune played? I can’t read any music and do have limitations in that area. So, any sheet music would not be helpful.
It would be greatly appreciated. Can someone please help me?
Now we are talk’in!! Thats the kick I’m talking about.
Very cool. I love it!!! Look forward to learning it! Been playing nothing but Trad these days.
By the way, I must plug these 2 guys because they are quite the hand on flute/whistle. Keep up the great playing Zac and Stephen. You 2 make a wonderful team. Thank you again Chiff!
Surely why not. Give me what ya got. At the moment I am working on a special Low Whistle project and could use a few more very cool and unforgetable tunes.
I have atleast 13 so far. Funny thing is, there are some tunes that seem as if they were written for only the Low Whistle! Thats how good it sounds playing certain licks with the Low Whistle. Not to mention grabbing a specific key to transpose. It’s really fun stuff! By the way, if you have never heard, “The Beauties Of Autumn” a march by John Brady, What a beautiful piece of music. Dervish (spirit cd) has a great version.
Bill Malley’s Schottische - by Martin Hayes - simple, but hard to get sounding right for me.
Francie Welsh’s Barndance - 6/8 time
Mick Carr’s Highland-might be in an odd key? I’ve never tried playing this one.
The last two can be found here. Can you tell I’m slanted towards fiddle?
Hardly! I’ve only been at it a year and half. I took up whistle because I needed something portable and more durable to play at work. I think that even with the lopsided amount of practice time I’ll become proficient at the whistle long before the fiddle.
fiddle - 1.5 yrs
whistle - just under a year. high d and low d. don’t touch the low d much, since i’ve toyed with the flute a bit and like the flute better. nowadays, it’s mainly fiddle, since i’m unemployed. can’t play whistle during lunch when there is no lunch break. still get to it 3-4 times a week, just not everyday.
BTW, that website I gave you isn’t mine, it’s the website of a real fiddler in Belfast. Found it through a fiddle-oriented forum. Hope that didn’t confuse you. He’s got some videos on Youtube as well. http://youtube.com/user/fiddlingSimon
