First tune recorded, any tips?

So I set myself to record my first tune, after 3 months of whistle playing and listening to irish music. Playing mandolin, whistle and guitar, in 4/4 (find it hard to keep 6/8) and 90 BPM (by similar reasons).
Any constructive thoughts are appreciated. I think it doesn’t have a very nice flow, and suggestions how to improve that would be great.
Thanks.

Ohh, and you don’t need to say: practice more, listen more and play more. I’m already doing that. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi Rhadge

Well you are playing the whistle in 6/8 so you are off to the right start. The mandolin at the start, when you are playing the tune, is also in 6/8. The last part of the tune where the guitar accompaniment really kicks in, you are playing a two bar rhythm pattern (1[2T3] 4-6|123 456) where the [2T3] is a triplet. This means that you are actually playing in 6/8 even though you say you are not.

For the rest of it just keep practicing till you can do it at 127 BPM.

Hi.
Thanks for the info! Though I find it hard to grasp, since I don’t know much musical theory.

Yep. Aiming for 120 BPM, then 127.
Any other opinions? What can be done to enhance the overall flow and feeling of the tune? Are there any really apparent “flaws” that can be corrected?

I’m not asking this because I want to improve my whistle/mando/guitar-playing, as I think that comes naturally. But rather how to make them work better together to create a nice tune. Composition-wise, rhythm-wise, when or when not to use certain techniques and so on.
Maybe it sounds a bit over-the-top for someone who just recorded his first tune, but I think that I might make use of such advice from the beginning, if there are any.
