Nice recording. What type of whistle are you playing?

I don’t think you will have a need for that.
Not sure I want to fall into the role of resident clip commentator but as it’s a rainy sunday morning I’d say you’re doing fine. If I’d suggest anything, maybe a slightly more emphasised rhythm or an overall sense of movement and direction would be one thing. You sound very careful and holding back a bit, although that’s probably just the siting in front of a microphone, I realise that too. Another thing is more than anything stylistic, you seem to be playing what strikes me as very much a fiddle notation, with all its little triplets in the second part. Nothing wrong with that ofcourse but try develop more of a whistler’s take on it. That said, both of those point really come down to experience and will sort themselves out in time. So, well done.

I agree with Mr Gumby, on the whole. Especially the bit about holding back - go for it! ![]()
Just one more thing to add from me: just a personal taste thing, but there was a bit too much separation of notes and tonguing in there for my taste. Nothing wrong with it, just taste. It kind of broke it up a bit too much for me.
Overall though, a lovely, musical rendition. ![]()
(Oh and by the way, it’s very sunny here.)

Just you wait, it’s heading east. But the back end of it passed over us and the sun is coming out now. It was lashing all night and all morning though.
Gave it a listen…a couple times!

I really enjoyed the tune, and that your recording is so clean. I always get noise on mine whether using the built-in mic on the laptop or the TASCAM mic.
Nice playing, nice tune. I am also curious what whistle you play ![]()
Couldn’t have done it better to save my life!
Thanks every one for the feedback and it’s good to hear I’m going in the right direction.
I’ll put a little background to things and also some questions.
I was a little self concious having just set up my recording equipment, next time I’ll try and relax a bit more.
Mr Gumby “quote”
‘very much a fiddle notation, with all its little triplets in the second part’ ‘but try develop more of a whistler’s take on it’
I sort of understand this but would like to know a little more.
I’ll add that I play most of my time with melodeons and fiddles playing English tunes so this will have a effect on my playing.
This is the first ‘Irish’ tune I’ve sat down and learnt in probably 2 years.
Also the tonguing, nothing I’m doing consciously but more to do with the Goldie whistle I usually play.
The whistle used here was a Freeman tweaked Generation Red top so very different whistle.
I’ll try another recording this week, relaxed and with less tongue and triplets.

That does explain it then and that’s fair enough.
