Hi all,
I’m in need of a bit of help
Can any of you suggest a first tune for me to learn on my flute. The only proviso is that its something a bit different from the usual i.e ‘Down by the Sally Gardens’ etc
I’ve been playing whistle for a good while now but I’d like something thats fairly slow but no nesessarily an Air.
Hope you can offer some suggestions.
Cheers
“Skibbereen” is nice and fairly easy. Check it out on one of the Chieftains CDs. “Maire’s Wedding” is nice, too…

What about O’Sullivans March …its a pretty tune and fairly straight forward…There are two of these …choose the one in 6/8 time..a jig march
Hey Nick! Which flute do you have?
I’m also a beginner with the flute (I have a Tipple), and I can tell you some ‘‘easy’’ tunes to learn on it, or at least the ones I tried to play in a first instance..
Here are a few not-air tunes:
-Return From Fingal (excellent tune to play on the flute)
-Terry Teehan’s
-Planxty Hewlett
-Road To Lisdoonvarna
Thanks guys for the suggestions
I’m going to give Skibbereen & Return to Fingal a try.
Martin, I already play Terry Teehan’s/Bobby Casey’s hornpipe as a set on Bb whistle.
My flutes are a Tipple with lip plate & wedge and a Fred Rose in Rosewood.
Cheers
