Spokes Mashiyane, of ‘Kwela’ fame, first learned to play on a simple shepherd.s reed flute as a boy tending his family’s herds. Ya gotta wonder if there is some continuity. . .

Great stuff. There is lots of material from Mr. Turner on youtube, and his granddaughter, Sharde Thomas, keeps the tradition going. She also plays on the recent album by the North Mississippi Allstars, World Boogie is Coming.
