f#-g-a stacato triplete question

hello pipers,
i need a bit help practicing…

i can do this triplete on the second octave, one finger at a time, which means i finger my G with only one finger up…

i cant do it this way on the first octave cause that fingering for the G jump immidiatly to the second octave squeeks…

so, are u suppose to do the stacato triplete on the first octave by one finger up for the f#, close, then two fingers up for the G(regular fingering), close, one finger up for the A, close. ?

or am i and my chanter squeeking in the wrong places..

hope u can uderstand what i mean.

cheers

The single finger G in the first 8ve will always squeel if you try to play it as a musical note. However, if you just play it as a very short pop! it fills in the triplet fine. It actually works better if you add a bit more pressure to it. Just make sure you are not tring to play it as a musical note, but rather as a percusive pop.

djm

What DJM says, but if it is absolutely vital to keep the G down as when I play a slower staccatto triplet in one particular tune it is possible to play the staccatto G with both fingers raised. Takes some practice but a handy skill to have.

first of all, this is not your exact question but it is related so you might read this;

what you ask is very chanter-specific.

in the first octave, you can do a one finger g in the middle of this triplet, but then you have to ease off on the bag pressure. what djm says about increasing pressure is true for some chanters but not for all.

too bad. did not know you were back in israel. was there just last week. with my pipes even. will contact you next trip we plan.

btw, what tune were you working on that prompted this question? was it harvest home? it helps to know to answer your question.

meir

btw, eran, how did you fix your reed problems? did cr fix it?

nooope, charles is one hard guy to deal with…

alan burton made me a new reed.
im not back home, yet

im still traveling, at the moment in the comfort of my best friend in australia.
about the reed, i took my pipes with me to some extremes, snow and sun, and its still a beauty, although i probably did mess it up a bit.

meir, the tune i was practicing is “Ballymanus Fair” from the heather clarke book…
i love this triplete on the second octave in “kittys rambles”

thanx for the help all, ill just try everything u offer.
