So I’m playing around with some more home made PVC flutes, and this got me wondering about embouchure shapes. So I’d thought I’d put it to the vast wealth of knowledge on C&F. What is the most unusual embouchure shape you have ever seen? The easiest to play? The best? The worst? I’m curious to hear about the variations you have encountered.
I’ve made PVC and bamboo flutes myself - a fun hobby!
As for embouchure shapes, the most unusual was on several eBay flutes where there were raised edges on the ends of the embouchure (basically, where the points are here: <>). Supposedly they helped focus the airstream.
Anyway, I like a nice oval - 10mm by 12mm.

I did see a double embouchure once, but was not sober at the time.
Andrew - was it on one of those fancy 12 hole flutes, too?
I don’t know. Every time I got to 5 I lost count and had to start again.
