What the hey is this thing? Saxarecorder? Fipplephone? Does the sound come out of the rings?

Well, it looks like it uses a soprano sax mouthpiece, if that helps.

Looks like a tabor pipe (three holes near the bottom). The mouth piece (?) looks like it is just something for comfort and reminds me of a flageolet type of set up.
I don’t know anything about tabor pipes but from what I can see it is pictured with a Gregory sax mouthpiece. He also made a Gale Hollywood model named after his daughter when he was operating out of Hollywood.
I can’t tell what size it is but I do know Gerry Mulligan played a baritone model on his sax.
My guess is they are not related to each other.
You can see a few models if you Google mouthpiece heaven.
They were reputed to be good mouthpieces.
I have already seen such a tabor pipe (same rings and metal fipple), in Paris, in an improvised african-south american-world music band. The gentleman who was playing it was so drunk I decided I did not have time to ask him where his instrument was coming from.
The sax mouthpiece IMHO has nothing to do with it.
