Hello folks!
Can anyone provide me with some info/reviews of Cotter flutes please? Pictures would be fantastic as well.
Does he base his flute on R&R style or pratten?
I cant find any website or contact details for him, can anyone help?

Hi Chris, I can help a little as I own one and have had it since late 2004.
To the best of my knowledge, he only makes one piece mid sections; what you would probably call Pratten style. He will make keyless or keyed, and I think he makes up to 6 keyed but he won’t do keyed feetjoints.
He’s a very nice guy and won’t make you wait forever and a day to get a flute. I waited 10 months for a 4 keyed one.
His flutes are quite narrow, slim affairs, not big huge Grinter or De Keyser things. I’ve played 3 of Eamonn’s, one of which was not to my liking but that was probably due to embouchure malady on my part.
I don’t have photos but if you p.m. me I think there are mp3s of my flute online somewhere.
I’d say they are a good choice if you want a nice flute without paying big bucks.

Here’s a thread devoted to Cotter prattens, including pictures:

Here’s an interview with Eamonn Cotter; he talks a bit about his design.

I’ve had a few come through the store over the years. I always quite like them and regret selling them when it’s over and done.
I had a 6-key here for a while, Jim caught me in a weak moment and I sold it to him. The keywork was nicely done.
They seem more “Pratten-y” than “Rudall-y” to me…maybe sort of “Prowse-y”…naw, probably more “Pratten-y” than “Prowse-y” but certainly not especially “Rudall-y”…though they are sweeter in the second octave than some Prattens. I don’t have any pictures, but the ones I’ve seen are black and have holes in them. If I can be of any more help just let me know. ![]()
Best,
Doc
I got a chance to examine one of his flutes at a session here, all in all a good flute, however the long c was actually quite short. Other than that a nice flute.
Methinks I’ve spotted the ubiquitous jim stone. Am I right?
Hi Chris. I forgot to say that I have Eamonn’s contact details pinned above my computer. p.m. me if you would like his number.

yar!
been busy, he has!
To the best of my knowledge, he only makes one piece mid sections;
Sinead Egan at Bradford CCE has a four-piece keyless. She asked him to make one with the extra section break and he obliged. I’ve a three-piece keyless, which is a joy to play. As mentioned earlier, very light, sleek construction. I do sometimes feel it’s hard to keep it up to pitch, even when warm, but I think that’s just my lack of technique!
