This looks lovely.
That does look quite nice.
Anyone have an idea what this is worth?
That’s the beauty of ebay. It’s worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it at a given time.
Thanks. Still it’s possible to get a good deal on e bay or pay more than the
instrument is worth. I mean the market value of the instrument.
I’d say it’s worth the cost of a nice antique 8 keyer. The fact it’s not stamped will deter some. If I had some money I would be very interested. Ofcourse, it’s a big plus that the person selling it knows a thing or two about flutes, and we can be sure that the description is accurate.
David
there is no such thing as market value for antique flutes like that one. some folks consider themselves experts, and might appraise it at a given value, but even that is unreliable because alleged experts are usually biased. too much subjectivity involved. if you know what you are looking for, you pay whatever it is worth to you personally, not what soemone else thinks of it. one expert might not see much value in it while another sees great potential. or you can take a risk if you do not know much about flutes, experts, or sellers. imo if you enjoy antique flutes then this would probably be an enjoyable one. hammy is honest and does not sell crap.
play it
then you’ll know what you’re willing to pay for it.
Well, my thinking goes something like this:
Rudalls in good repair are going for about 5000 dollars, if I remember right.
This isn’t an official Rudall, it isn’t clear what it is, in fact,
or who made it. This means it is less in demand than a Rudall
and also harder to resell. So it’s worth considerably less than 5000.
The question is how much less.
There are 8 keyed flutes going for around 2000 or less. This one, especially given its seller
and what he says about it, is worth more. Also it has silver keys and an interesting configuration,
and was made with care. And it looks lovely So I would guess 3000. FWIW.
I’m not going to bid on this flute, by the way. But it’s an interesting
odd duck.
oh go on jim, place a bid. forget about wife’s boxing ability, you ought to be able to take a punch by now. fwiw, your man bryan byrne favored willis as a maker…
Excuse me?
dun’no KO ya seem to have lost some credibility…
Please, let’s not get
her excited. There’s nothing to prove, after all.
What’s a woman need credibility for if she’s got a good jab?
If ya had a good jab why would he be worried about Cathy’s?
Getting back to the thread’s topic,
I have it from a reliable source that Hammy’s
ebay flute
is infested with termites.

sorta like having a 9key bryan byrne flute that aged like a fine wine…
It’s crawling with boll weevils, I tell you!
OMG…Jim’s the bidder ![]()
