Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Sant

Tuesday is Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Sant. If you aren’t familiar with Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Sant look it up on WikiLeeks.

{groan}

ya shouldn’t encourage 'im…

Iachid Da! (for tomorrow.)

It is possible to play Sospan Fach on the willowflute! I’m just saying.

A petition in 2007 to make St. David’s Day a bank holiday was rejected by office of the then British Prime Minister, Tony Blair. (Wikipedia)
Perhaps we should try again - there should be a much better chance of success with the current guy.

Pedant alert: it’s “iechyd da” and is pronounced with a distinct “e” sound as in the “e” in bed. (Almost.)

I’m doing well, considering the book I have it from spells it “Yacky Dar”.

went to school with her, I did…

Blimey! What book is that?! “Get By in Wenglish”?

:astonished:

The coconut goes to Dwest. Good book, too.

Sam Llewllyn … hmmm … good Welsh name and lives just up the road from me …

No he doesn’t, don’t be Scilly.

Sam Llewllyn… Say. Wasn’t he Frodo’s pal?

Happy Saint David’s Day!

(Ought to be an auspicious day for me in spite of my indifferent theological upbringing)

Damn! Missed an ‘e’ out of his name. I assure you he does live just up the road from me. Would you like me to go and get him?

Seriously though, he was born in Scilly, moved all over the place and now lives in Herefordshire. Well, he did last time I checked.

It’s still a good Welsh name …

[And the other Sam is a Gamgee.]

Sam Llewellyn. My grandfather was a Davies/Llewellyn hybrid cross, I was thinking this guy could be a relative, same complexion, same colour hair…except nobody in our family his age has hair. Nice Eutrochium purpureum to his left though.

Usually not the most prevalent of ethnicities in the Twin Cities, the Welsh do seem to be swarming about this time of year; among others, I just met a Llewellyn the other day. I noted of course that his was a venerable name of historic pedigree, and he mentioned that there’s a tale in his family that some sector of their branch, being basically fallen into the condition of ignorance, actually spelled their name “Llllewellllyn” strictly out of sheer pretention. I thought that was terribly interesting, if frankly hard to take all that seriously (which I didn’t mention, it being none of my business). In any case it’s a good story. Valuable for being cautionary, too, I think no one could dispute.
