drone cane.

For those interested, I have a limited supply of drone cane available in all sizes… especially tenor… at $3.00 per guill.

Serious inquiries via PM please.

how much is a guill?

how much cane is a guill?

A guill is a cane drone reed, so $3 per guill is the same as saying $3 per reed.

djm

technically a guill is a reed, but I think Joseph is selling only the cane at $3, not a completed ‘guill’.

Yes’suh, that’d be correct-a-mundo.

$3 a pop. I just went through a flood, and the only cane loss was about 200 tubes of tenor size drone canes which were in a plastic bag. Too bad I was not more careful with them. Still have some not cut into individual tubes.

Three dollars a quill seems very expensive .medir,s price for tenor drone cane is less than half that price !!

RORY

Medir has family and a staff to go out and collect it from cultivated plants. I am one man, disabled, mad as a hatter and I drive far and wide to harvest it in the wild… which, may I add, is extremely labor intensive. Then, there is everything else that comes with getting it ready for use.

I think the price is more than fair, but if it is too steep for you, don’t purchase it… simple as that.

Does Medir sell them indiviually? Last time I enquired I had to buy in bulk - for chanter cane at least, I don’t know about drone cane. And it was going to cost 1 1/2 times as much again for postage.

Considering drone reeds can last for 15+ years… it’s not worth talking about.

Go to the mall and get a scoop of ice cream. Last I checked it was $3.75
Oh, you want that on a cone? Add 75¢

Don’t buy it from Joe then.

Well, you can always buy it from NPU at $5.00 for 10 sticks. A mixture, and then there’s the shipping, and then there’s the wait…

and exchange rate…
$3 a stick is a fine price. And you can be sure that the sticks coming from Joe will be good quality too.

Hey Joeseph, it just occured to me…do you use a guillotine to chop your guills to length?

For sure Joe can charge what he likes for his cane ,But as this is an disscussion forum and not an advertisment forum ,I think people should be informed that they can obtain cane from a tried and tested supplier who has been supplying cane to musicians for years for less than half the price that Joe is charging for his wild cane .And by Joe saying wild I take this to imply that he is getting it for free.
But there is work involved and it is labour intensive, watching cane dry can be very tiring, and under the heat of the mid-day sun a piece of drone cane can seem very heavy!! .

  It is obvious to me you don’t have a clue what you are talking about, and have never harvested wild cane. And as for free, there’s a ton of “sweat equity” involved in caning.

… are you referring to this?

I would like to thank all interested parties. The cane has sold out, the next batch ought to ready by summer.
