Ive been invited to go on a Dolphin watch thing off the coast of Clare next weekend. Apparently there is a school of Bottle-Nose Dolphins that come into the coastal waters every year, and this tour company crowd bring people out in a boat to look at them.
The boat has a bar so thats cool.
Anyway i’ve ordered 12 hollow point .22 dum-dums for the rifle as i’ve heard that theyre leathery f#ckers and pretty hard to nail.
I also was contemplating bringing the shotgun with maybe a BB or no.4 loaded cartridge with me as apparently these dolphons jump like bejaysus next to the boat and there fairly hard to hit.
Anybody else got any suggestions for the handiest way to bag a dolph?
I’ve never been dolphin hunting, but couldn’t you just use a tuna net?
G’s are you in trouble! I’m watching this one from a safe distance!
Offer him the starring role in a cheesy muscle-man flick.

RE: Tuna nets.
Excellent, hadnt thought of that. Pretty hard to rustle up one of them
though between now and saturday.
Thinking of maybe making some form of harpoon in the workshop at work tomorrow.
I hear they wriggle like f#ck when you launch a bit of steel into there bellies!
Bottle nose? Ill show them a real bottle nose! aaaaaaar!
You could also bag a dolph by having an operation to look like this gal…

Tuna net. Failing that, rifle. Keep the damage to a minimum. You might want to make a bodhrán, after all.
How 'bout a big stick?
You can bag this dolph on television:

Keeping damage to minimum isnt why Dolphin hunting was invented!
You wanna try and get them on the leap, try to wing(flipper?) them so that when they land they start to go round in circles! Then the harpoon comes into action!
Apparently its gas craic altogether!
Flanum, were you attacked by a dolphin as a child?
Perhaps he’s really a shark?

Well, either you’ve got a very strange sense of humour (and this is supposed to be kind of a “fun”- thread) or you are a very sick person to my point of view.
It’s easy to feel sorry for the dolphins, it’s pretty hard to feel sorry for you. I try both anyway.![]()

PS: Cheers, Cranberry, wherever you are.
The best way to take a dolphin is with with a deep-sea rod and reel and one of those gaff-like hooks the size of a toddler’s arm. Some folks lke to bait cast, but you can also just troll off the back of the boat. There’s more time for drinking beer if you’re trolling; bait casting is too much like work.
Spotted owl makes pretty good bait, but not as good as pinkie panda babies.
Shouldn’t you suspend a ball or hoop on a pole over the side of the boat?
When they jump, that’s your moment.
I’m planning to go swimming with dolphins on my next Stateside trip! I’d better watch for inebriated Flanums!
Dynamite. Always dynamite. ![]()
Only nancy-boys use firearms on dolphins. A real man just clubs them into submission. ![]()
